    How was the 100k?

    Welcome to the thread.

Finally getting my legs under me 3 weeks into my deployment, they do a lot of 5k's here on base so I have been doing those, managed a respectable 20:15 last week in about 90 degrees. Not bad for almost 48. Hoping to break 20 at the end of the month for the next one. Meanwhile I am up to about 5.5 miles for a "long" run, the heat just kicks my butt so much, I can't believe I ran my relatively hilly 25k in 2:05:15 (8:04 pace) just a few days before I flew out and now I am battling to get to 6 miles on flat ground. Still adjusting to the heat!

Howdy all! Well, I ran the Miwok 100K in 11:56:53. Pretty good for me. I placed 65th Overall of 450 and 26th in agegroup of 121ish. It started raining about 3 hours into the race and continued for most of it. I did make a pour choice of shoes however, I ran in my road shoes because I was really hoping it was not going to rain or at least not for as long as it did. Big mistake! Best part was I posted the 10th fastest time on the last 6 mile section of the course! Not bad for an old guy!

Big kudos. I can never see a time when I'd ever consider such a run. Having run my longest run ever, during my Ironman last summer - I am just not a long distance runner. I'll likely do more Ironman races - but that'll be the only time I run 42.2 kms. I want to shoot myself in the head after 30k. lol
    Congrats!!

Just found out the Air Force marathon will be held remotely at my location this year so I am into training for it, even though it's blazing hot and humid! First double digit run will be tomorrow, 14 miles of flat boring terrain.

Rolled ankles hurt a lot! Done that a few times just walking around this gravel covered place, luckily nothing so bad to keep me from running. Heal up fast!

Good to hear your ankles are doing good! It's freaking hot and humid, I ran 9 miles starting just before 6 am, heat index was 112, humidity was 89%, I am running low 20 miles per week, way off where I need to be but I am doing the best I can with the conditions.

    Yeah....what he said!! lol

I'm doing the Calgary Ironman 70.3 this Sunday. My swim and bike are in great shape this year - but my run is definitely slower. Oh well.

Good plan on going cheaper for now, especially if it works. Let us know how the ride goes.

Good luck on your race this weekend! I am planning on doing that next summer assuming I am not deployed again.

Yeah, I forgot to quote! It will take a bit to get your sit bones used to being on a bike seat, once you get used to it though, it should be all good. Were your legs just dead after the bike? It took a lot to get used to running off the bike but now I love it, hopefully you will too. How are your swimming and transition skills?

I have had to cut back on my running quite a bit, the heat has been getting to me and the past 2 days have been very hot with a continuous dust storm. Been attending a spin class 2-3 times a week to get in some extra cardio but really want to be out running. Hopefully I can get out tomorrow morning before my shift if the dust ever settles.

Cool, so you are practicing, that will help a lot but you already know that. Swimming is the toughest part even though it's the least amount of time of the 3 events, gotta get in the water as much as possible! Good luck in the pool, I would hit that 2-3 a week minimum if you can. I live near a lot of lakes but very seasonal for water temps and I don't get nearly enough open water time. There are some good videos out there for practicing transitions, early on I followed a couple, setup everything in a park near my house, put my wetsuit on and then ran from about 100 yd practicing getting my wetsuit down to my waist, getting bike gear on, hop on the bike, ride around the park, then do my run transition. Rinse and repeat.

Yesterday our thermometer that is in the shade read 125, today 124 and last night it never got below 100 for the low! About 80 more days in this crap!

Doing my first half marathon this weekend. Really is my first long distance race aside from 10Ks. only about a year into running. I ran 13.1 a month ago just to see what I could do it in, right at 1:48.
