The "Official" Runners thread...

Ok! In order to keep the ball rolling I signed up for the Philadelphia Rock N Roll 1/2 marathon on 9/16/18!

I am in a little bit of a bind though this week... Disney vacation. So far one short crappy jog and I am eating like a king!

I just got out of the Bob Marshall, toeing the line for the Bob Open for the fourth year. This year was sure to be troublesome with record snowpack and consequently record stream flows, the later being the most worrisome.

15 folks toed the line Saturday morning, only two would finish- I wouldn't be one of them. We made a good effort, but the stream crossings not only slowed us down, but were flat out dangerous. At roughly mile 80 on day three, we decided it would be safest to bail. Our bail options were very limited this far in, and settled for a sketchy 15 mile out to a trailhead.

Next year

 

nothing really big race wise- a 12 hour night trail race here locally in June (first year they've held it), probably the Elkhorn 23 or 50k in August, but do have a really cool run planned in Colorado in September, the Pawnee-Buchanan Loop

I’ve done a few 50 mile days (actually 47 and 48), but have never done a 50 mile race; guy she probably do one and cross it off his list

 

That's quite the busy schedule! I'm struggling just to get in decent training runs with the 95+ degree heat here

 

Well I'm finally back to ultrarunner status - 12 hour race last night (8PM-8AM) I racked up 40 miles (three full loops and a bonus small loop)- I was literally walking dead in the morning!

A 12 mile figure 8 (the bigger loop is 8 miles, smaller 4) about 3000' of gain/loop- all technical single track trail, which combined with running w/ a headlamp and lack of sleep makes for interesting running to say the least.

I predict soreness for several days

I’ve been getting in some solid long runs the last two weekends- 21 and 17 miles (today)- technical single track with some good gain. Will need it as I signed up for the Elkhorn 50k this morning.

Finished the Elkhorn 53K- as per usual, it's a really tough 33-ish miles- my goal this year was to take it easy on the first half and save some energy for the second and finish it. The last two years I've run the 25k, figured it was time to suck it up and run the longer one

Finish wasn't great, about 2/3's back, but fared better in my age group with a 3rd. Had I known, the second place finisher was just 5 minutes ahead of me, the first place finisher set a new course record for the age group- I was no challenge to him

 

a 50-ish mile two day fastpack into the Bob Marshall; plan was to traverse the Chinese Wall by trail and that at the north terminus, get on top of it (off trail) and take it back south.




we were making good time, but about 25 miles in we ran into this


we tried getting on top where we were at (Cliff Mtn- aptly named btw ), but after two hours of climbing/scouting it was a no go

so we found a good spot where we were at to camp




we've already made plans to tackle it again next, hopefully sans wildfire

 

just got back from a three day trip in Colorado- some epic runs in RMNP and the Indian Peaks Wilderness

 

First *successful* 100 mile completion. Stagecoach Flagstaff to Grand Canyon 100, 24:07

On your trip to Indian Peaks Wilderness, did you happen to run near Lone Eagle Peak? IPW is just fantastic

 

we were fairly close- we did the Pawnee-Buchanan Loop, quite a peak
