I'm north of you in the Wash DC region where they use a lot of salt on the road and I haven't seen any frame rust yet (6 yrs...fingers crossed) nothing major for sure. My aftermarket front bumper on the other hand.....pfff!

I went from a 2004 1st gen to a 2007 FJ and I absolutely love it. Not having a truck took a little getting use to, but it rides so much better. As for what to look out for, depends on what year you are looking at. The early 2007's (early 2006 build date) had some issues with fender bulge and some say that the 07 - 09 rear axle is weak, no problems with mine. There really isn't that big of a rust issue like on the 1st gen tacoma's, but any northern FJ could have rust. Mine had. FJ are tanks and very reliable, after all, it's a Toyota.

Another good resource is http://www.fjcruiserforums.com. Lots of good info and very knowledgeable people.

Yeah, thanks! That's the problem with my truck, it's to the point of not being very reliable any more. I'm trying to keep it sub 20g the lower the better of course the lower the better but I'm trying to stay away from the 2007s just because of the axle problems.

From what I have read, the fj's with the 8" rear ends were 07 - 09. Here in the Raleigh area, 2010's go for 25k plus. I'd look into it more, but I don't think I'd let the smaller rear end bother me too much. You should be able to find a 07 or 08 no problem for 20k.

I have a 2014 FJ with offroad package in Army Green that has actually appreciated since I bought it. 3200 miles and that is not a misprint.

I'm still going to buy a 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro as soon as one shows up on my dealer's lot in white (I would love Inferno but they are not going to be available in that color initially).

I expect I will have two of the best trucks ever made!
