Agreed i think the only option is trimming the flange a tad for it to fit. When you get time could you send me a picture? how it looks

@JasonLee does your drifter have any kind of flange going inward on the bed side or is it just flush with the rails for mounting?

For sure, I've got to get a dimension for @frenchee too. I'll do both today.

I think the drifter just mounts directly to the bed cap if my memory serves.

No, and all the other non SP campers are like the Drifter as well to ensure transferability between the different bed shapes/sizes with the generations.

Here's a photo of the Drifter on my 1st gen (which is now on my 2nd gen). The photo shows the flat, parallel to the ground aluminum lip that sits on top of the bed sides and is clamped down to the truck. Triple bulb seal between that is attached to the Drifter with adhesive.

The flange that extends down from the SP into the bed lines up almost to the face of the OEM bed track, at least on my 3rd Gen. Could be completely different on a 2nd Gen OEM rail, but I bet it’s closer to the same as mine. Does not seem that it can be put behind the rail, nor does that seem like it would be all that stronger than the c-clamps they give us anyway. Hope my photo shows what I’m talking about

yup thats the issue, so i messaged Spencer he and i are talking seeing what my options are we might do a spacer out of aluminum for the camper for the X-1 to raise up the camper for that issue or he is looking a a couple ideas. Its interesting that all the other brands don't have that lip. But also how different the top parts of the 3gen vs 2gen are our rails are alot closer too the top of the bed rail almost flush minus the plastic bed rail caps. We will See if i can make it work @rjvincent1 ill let you know since we are in the same boat

I like the lip, a good positional constraint in the X.
That's nice hes working with u on a solution

I actually don't hate the idea of the flange either. It seems like it will provide some outward structural support, alignment point, and possibly a bit more protection from interior water ingress.

It makes sense engineering wise, but may be overkill.

An owner of a Drifter lost control on a gravel road and flopped on their side. The Drifter didn't budge and wasn't damaged (other than scratches). The clamps held just fine with no inner lip.

What are dimensions between the L and R flange across the width of the bed. I guess another way to ask it is what is the interior width between the two flanges? I want to measure that against my 1st Gen bed and see how the flanges will fit against the bed rail.

I believe it will be the same interior width for all beds/generations, the fitment variation is around how much exterior bedrail protrudes.

I see. Does anyone have that width dimension?

Ah it budged a tiny bit... I'm not sure inner flanges of the X-1 would be undamaged in an accident like this...

Thanks for the help @Coop68. I put in an email to Spencer/Cindy regarding my issue as well. Have not heard back yet but you are probably 2-3 weeks ahead of me for install. I’m sure they will come up with a genius solution for our dilemma. Please let me know what you find out.
