Add me to the list for jacked-up blue latches. The day after camping in the Alvord desert, it took air from my ARB compressor, water from a garden hose and finally a can of compressed air to get the latch to move to the unlocked position. Trying to lock it the next day was just as much as a pain in the a$$. It’s kind of ironic to explain to numerous curious people in a parking lot of a convenience store in the middle of eastern Oregon how much you enjoy your X1 when you are using a borrowed garden hose to try and free a pound of fine desert dust from your camper so you can open it for them. But when we took the X1 back to SP, they didn’t hesitate to change the locking mechanism.

I've not had any issue with water or dust intrusion around the side doors. Only issue with those is I have to be precise in how I slam them shut (1 hand on each end) or the rearward side won't slam tight. It's still latched but has some play. When I close it correctly, both ends of the door are tightly closed.

One thing I did notice was I seemed to be having dust come in along the bottom of the side bed rails. Before I picked up the X1 I removed the bed rail caps and put down tape and silicone, then reinstalled. The dust seemed to be coming from underneath the rails mounted inside the sides of the bed. I ran a bead of silicone on the underside of that, and in a few other places where dust seemed to be appearing. Also had to remove the electrical outlet in the bed and silicone around that. Seems to have helped a bit.

Yeah the strut failing would be a huge bummer. Not sure how you could predict that. Mine have been solid so far. Only had a few nights with a lot of wind though. It wouldn't take up much room to bring a collapsible pole on trips just in case. Deploy it when winds are high enough to push the wedge downward, and you'd have it in case of a failure.

i took my X-1 out last weekend for its first nights camp around some sand dunes, very pleased with how it preformed was huge upgrade from the RTT. I will say it rained on us for a good hour I had no water intrusion i can see at the moment.

i did a bunch of silicone sealing the first couple weeks before going out. After coming back from SP i did spray down the truck and camper to remove all the bugs and also drove in some rain. i did have water coming in from the corners and where the sleeping platform meets the bed fuselage i ran a bead of silicone with a syringe and seems to have fixed my issue.

most of the water and dust i saw coming in was from the bed it self/tailgate. this is what made me seal the cubbies and i ended up taking off all my wheel wells and going in from underneath and silicone the gap where the bed meets with the side panel and also where the mounting rails screw into on the 2gens. i haven't had any water coming in since, but still need a good rain to test it out more.

ended up buying 2 tailgates seals one that @nudavinci64 mentioned and one for the lower portion.

Amazon.com: Papillon Adhesive Universal Rubber Truck Bed Tailgate Gap Cover Filler Seal Shield Lip Weather Stripping Cap Seal Kit(4.25" × 11′ Black): Automotive
ESI Ultimate Tailgate Seal with Taper Seal 10ft for use with Truck Caps and Tonneau Covers

granted my HC rear bumper being that i cut half of wheel well off allows for more dirt and water to be thrown up into that area. nothing will be 100% perfect.

Not yet. I’ll email them. But I’m assuming “lubricate the blue latch” and “adjust the door latch” is about all they can say. I think the longer doors bow a bit in the middle. I think GFC has similar issues. The only “doors” that won’t flex are the “windoors” cut into the Drifter and Summit that are much smaller and less useful. So it’s a trade off. Imho

I bed you could add a small spring type latch that can pop over the inside ledge. Im thinking about the springs that hold folding doors together in the middle. Hope that makes sense. Ill see if i can find what im talking about and post it

At this point it’s not a huge problem. I knew I was getting a shell and not an enclosed camper like the 4-Wheel. Just adding to discussion.

We've had problems with the blue latches also. On our trip down to Utah & CA in April, they were incredibly hard to open. I marked up the camper a little forcing it open with a screwdriver also. I wish I had some lubricant with me, but didn't think of that until we got back to town. WD-40 seems to have mostly fixed the problem. Doors on our long bed seemed not to be a problem and I don't see much dust coming in there.

What do other 2nd gen owners think about the tailgate flange seal? There is a pretty big gap at the edges. I've added a piece of tailgate seal there now, but it seems like SP should come up with a better solution. I was told by Cindy in April that Spencer was working on a new version, but I haven't heard anything since. Has anyone gotten un updated version?

Since April, this was the first trip 10 days with it. Yeah the blown strut is the big one and the rest is just added to it but they are working with me on it.

Yah I noticed similar stuff as well adjusting the doors is a pain.

Thats been documented a bunch of pages back. I added some seal and also noted it to SP supposedly a fix or something in place but its def a big part. I had "sealed" it with weather seals but not good enough.

I saw your fix a while back and basically did the same thing. I was just wondering if anyone had gotten an actual replacement from SP yet?

The current version looks pretty similar. I will show a photo of mine but it does not address that gap.

Just spray the blue latch with a lubricant. I used WD40 because I was in mexico and had nothing else. Yes it collected a bunch of dust, but it was night and day.
Go get a spray lubricant that doesnt collect dust and spray it. I couldn't believe the change. I used to hammer it open and closed with a mallet. Now its like butter!

I have the long bed. Same issue with the length of the doors not sealing in the center. SP sent me a second gasket that helped seal it.
Same issue with the blue latch’s. I keep a crescent wrench in the bed of the truck now to clamp on and pry open.

What does SP recommend for a lubricant and why, with all these reported problems, don't they lubricate the latch during the fitting to your truck?

Same, Wd40 is what I had. I sprayed it once back in February. Haven't had an issue since. Maybe there is some dust in there now but I haven't noticed, and it hasn't impacted the latch at all. Spray it with whatever you have. No need to overthink this.

That’s what I was wondering. Why not lubricate upon assembly there. Maybe they haven’t and will implement , idk. But yeah y’all way overthinking it. Either use wd40 or ur lube of choice. Mine was packed with dust coming back from Baja and still smooth as butter. I power washed it. Still smooth.
