nice i started dropping a few coins in there every few couple weeks. Was doing that with Bitcoin. prob should hve sold it all when it peaked. next time around it will be nice. Cant dwell on the past but joked about buying $500 of bitcoin and forgetting about it back in 2010. oh the what-ifs on that statement

Should I be anticipating some issues with door latch handles and locks this winter with ice?

Anyone use some grease or something in there to prevent issues?

I received an email yesterday to pick colors! Once my payment goes through, I'll be looking at 10-12 weeks, which should put me in November for install, ahead of the estimated December install when I ordered. I picked OD Green for the shell and tan for the tent.

Going to be an interesting winter figuring everything out for sure. Would be nice to use the pop-up post ski sesh.
Use silicone spray on contact surfaces?

Wondering how dry-out is going to work after use. Popup at home again on the next sunny day with a heater inside? Will there be potential for mold accumulation or is there a way to prevent this on the fabric (303?) when its put away slightly damp?

Camped in mine every weekend starting in Feb here in the Cascades. Keep the latches lubricated with T9 and you should be fine - I only encountered issues the first weekend (pre lubricant) and nothing after that.

Peter didn't seem super worried about mold, as the tent is made of robust material similar (if not the same) as boat sails, which are stored wet often. Dry out when you can but otherwise no specific cleaning or prep needed. FWIW I never had any significant saturation of the tent material when camping in the snow. It would usually just wipe/dust right off.

I was just going to tag you when you responded. To bring this back up, Boeshield T9. NOT WD-40.

When SP first announced and only had 3D prints of their extrusions, I asked about rain freezing in the "gutter" drains.

I'm pretty sure that people that are running a heater will be melting snow, which will run down the tent into the "gutters" in the extrusions. If enough liquid freezes/builds up, it looks like you are unable to close the lid and latch it.

I never got an answer from SP themselves other than "it drains out" - but this was prototype phase not a real world (in winter) answer.

Have you experienced this yet in winter?

There is an internal gutter in the extrusion, and your logic makes sense. I've noticed one spot down near the hinge that can accumulate a bit of ice "drainage" so it's working as intended (photo below). That said, I've never had it drain/build up enough to cause an issue when closing. I will know more this winter when my heater is installed (I camped in ambient temp all winter) and I put the inside of the camper through more of a thaw/freeze cycle.

All that being said, if I think about it more a heater would melt the snow/ice, allow to drain, then you'd have empty channels if they work as intended unless it was totally nuking snow. It would only cause a serious issue if you are refreezing faster than you can melt and even so you should be able to clear the ice decently easily with a scraper or some deicer spray.

TLDR: yes it can ice due to the draining but no I haven't seen it be an issue.

Thanks for the photo and real world account. This is a concern of mine and one of the reasons I got rid of my Flippac (potentially the last one made at FRP) while it was still in mint condition - it's not made for 3-seasons, let alone 4-seasons.

Yea, all in this is still a much better option than the flippac for any use in the elements. If the draining does become an issue for you I'd assume that a bead of silicone or some RV sealant tape around the composite roof panel edge would essentially render the inner drain channel moot. You'd have water running down/off the roof but it wouldn't seep in and drain through the aluminum.

Busted.... that's me! Still on road trip to CO. Just finished a bikepack of the Colorado Trail, just under 11 days for 525 miles. Good times!

Did a ride in the Abajo mtns by Montecillo UT before heading over to Cortez to ride Phils World and then on to Durango. Solar setup performed well and I had cold beers when I finished the CT a couple days ago. Now on to more adventures!

Yeah, congrats, you were waiting a long time. Enjoy!

Yes. On my last trip a couple of weeks ago I deflated the mattress and kept the whole thing on and closed the tent. This is basically a very light summer down bag zipped to a poly-cotton sheet, so there's not much bulk to it at all.
