What do you mean "keyless entry"?
Is a key needed to open the rear door?
The founders edition video at 1:45 shows him opening the side door without a key.

You can open the door without a key if it's unlocked. If it's locked, then you have to turn the key.

I think OP is asking if there's a way to have the canopy unlock with your fob. based on the two sided latching system it might be hard to do, but I'm no engineer :)

Picked up my SP last Friday and camped my way back to the Bay Area over the weekend. As others have said, super nice crew. I got there early and they were quick to offer me a beer and show me around, and they let my pup have free roam. I only had to do a tiny bit of extra water proofing so far. Seems like a pretty good fit on the 2nd gen. Photos at the end show the couple places I supplemented.

Only minor let down for me was learning that they've switched to using plastic for the windows instead of glass. Saves on weight, which is good, but just a bit less durable in some ways. Not a problem at all thus far, but I find myself a bit worried they'll get scratched up over time.

Quick question for those with their camper. Is your forward side-door hinge set at the mid level while your rear is set at the lowest setting? Both doors are set up this way on mine, so it seems intentional, but thought I'd check (second to last photo).

Needless to say, I'm stoked overall.

Oh also, on the topic of the clamps that connect the camper to the bed... why not just use steel instead of aluminum? Seems like that would prevent the bending and loosening over time that y'all have been describing. I had to tighten mine up quite a bit after the drive. The blue aluminum blocks in the track also seem a bit small. They're tucked up in the top of the track snugly (there's a lot of pressure on them) but the bottom edge is floating. I'll snag a photo if you don't know what I mean. Seems like they're skinnier than is ideal for the 2nd gen track. Probably not actually a problem, just seems slightly shy of ideal. Curious for others' thoughts.

    Thanks

yeah i noticed that as well about the blocks. Looks like theyre gonna pop out. I went on another trail the other day and they came loose again and started rubbing on the truck cabs window seal. This is pretty irritating at this point and im not sure what else to do to keep it from loosening besides loc tite. anyone have any suggestions?

Seems like loctite won't fix the issue if it's about the aluminum bending rather than the bolt loosening. No harm in trying loctite though. If that works then it's a pretty easy solution. Guess you could count the exposed threads on the bottom before/after a trail to find out for sure if it's bending or loosening

Sorry for the low qual photo, but I think you can see what we're talking about with the block and the clamps. In my case, I'm not doing any heavy offroading so I'm not worried about losing the camper. Mostly just curious about steel vs aluminum. They're small enough that the weight difference seems negligible.

Seems like if the block were bigger, it might keep the bottom section of the clamp more horizontal too. I'm not an engineer though. And I'm sure SP has gone through some different iterations. It's probably not quite as easy and simple as I'm imagining :)

Damn... I do not like that clamp setup at all. That's really how y'all's X1's are all attached? I would definitely lose the camper if I did one of our hard wheeling trips. If not at least damage something severely. For the price I paid for this thing and especially others now with the increases.. I expect something better than that honestly.. this really bums me out. The more time that goes by and the more reading I do in this thread after I already put my 75% down awhile back... is starting to make me Leary.

But, I do feel like I could improve on that clamp design, or at least the track insert fitment.. which would definitely help. Of course it's loosening.. the fit of all that is just all wrong. The insert is too small for the track.. allowing it to rotate.. which it shouldn't be doing but is because the side hole in that bent tab, with the Allen head cap screw.. isn't even perpendicular to the track to begin with.. which is pulling that track insert up. You're not getting any vertical clamping pressure. That bent tab needs to be longer height wise.. with a new hole put in it.. plus a larger, better fitting insert.

Plus relying on that back flange as support during the clamping process would work if it was actually flush with the track. It looks recessed allowing that bent tab to rock back. It's just all ill-fitting allowing slop to occur.

At least that's how I would design and make it at work... But I'm not technically an Engineer either. :notsure:

The ones we got are the same but not the blue block. It’s a block of aluminum and tight. Almost doesn’t want to go in. Seems like they changed it.

if you need any I go let me know because even mild wheeling they come loose. I have mine all the way bend it not.

I did notice the truck is now closer to the cab as well. I got 4 more extras but haven’t bolted them down.

I don't have blue blocks and haven't had any issue with loosening (have done many hours on washboard FS roads, etc but not mega flexing/wheeling).

Re the side doors, mine were set up that way and I raised them because I kept hitting my head on them. I also put car door edging on the “gunnel” edge because I’d occasionally bump my head on that. Maybe it’s just me, but it helped. Actually I wish I would have used some sort of neoprene edging because it’s still a hard bump on that gunnel. Just FYI

Maybe we can come up with some better fitting (more vehicle specific) mounts..

Excuse my quick mockup.. But just better fitting parts might help. I'm nervous for ours, but at the same time excited so I can work on little projects like this and possibly help others as well.

Looks like your tight all the way too. I don’t think they go that far at first. On mine and I think it depends on the mount it pulls even just tightening them.

Yah I was thinking something like that but also a flat bat that goes over the top to pull it down. That one has some but yah if you get something that would be rad.

im willing to help with this as well i have done some hard wheeling and see the clamps mounting the camper not the best design for some of the colorado trails. my camper has moved a little but not bad i do think having the aluminum bed rails and starboard spacer SP made me for 2gen has help tighten the mounts down more.

def if it went up event 1/4" it would likely fit better. Curious to see how your mounts look tightened down.

On you last picture did they add some type of backing behind the lower door flap deal or did you add it? Seems like it has some added "stuff"

Mine are not that tight either. I also have the non blue blocks. I have had ZERO issues with the clamps loosening.
