Thanks @Ridgewalker1! Looks like something could get hooked onto the part the key turns similar to the tailgate lock. I'll have to wait until I get mine in a couple months, but I'll post an update if I figure it out.

If you're referring to this part,

I don't think it turns from the inside, at least I have tried before and it didn't seem to budge

Yeah, that part. That's a bummer it doesn't move. I might call SP and ask them about it. If not, then I'll just experiment when I get my camper.

Tried for a while to make my tradesman work, but the headspace is a real limiter.

    Now looking at superpacific.

A rough measure shows the tent extended a little forward of my b pillar. I have a 6’ bed and a prinsu.

Wondering if there are any pics of gen1’s out there?

Searched the thread, but couldn’t find.

Thanks man, after I bought it (used), I thought it was a custom paint because I never saw any others that color.

No, bought the taco used and it came with the tradesman

Honestly, I love everything about it but the head room. Once I built out storage in the bed, there just isn’t much space.

    Obligatory post

Forgive me for asking a possibly stupid question…Do you know if this would fit on an automatic transmission Tacoma?

I read through the product page and I know it says “auto” at the top but I couldn’t tell if that was speaking to the trans type or not.

Sorry for the delayed response. I was out of town on business all week.
I'm a bit confused... Do you order a complete new set from GettaGrip every time? I actually only bought the insert that the grips mount onto. I'm a mountain biker, so I have a ton of grips lying around my garage and the real selling point to me was that I can use whatever grips I want and swap them out with new ones for about $15 (set of two grips for $30 is about average). Right now I'm using some ODI Ruffians, but I'm thinking about moving over to some Ergon GA3 grips.

Yeah, they are for the Auto trans

I actually have mine on a 2018 Tundra, but it seems like the Taco is the same size (8mm x 1.25 thread pitch)

I agree! I think it would be a useful kit but not at the expense of permanently losing the ability of using my truck bed for other uses. Seems like jack stands could be made and mounted for something like this? Would the extrusion hold up?

Just my experience with many years of campers, travel trailers, motorhome, truck caps, etc. I have always used my pickup bed (when no cap nor camper on it) for hauling compost yearly, mulch 2-3x yearly, yard refuse (many loads yearly), moving family and friends, etc. But for a number of years now I have had a utility trailer and vastly prefer using it! Truck stays clean and not beaten up. The trailer only requires a $40 tag yearly. My insurance is covered by the towing vehicle (my truck).
That said, I have used camper jacks both electric and manual and an electric hoist in the garage as well as one in the yard to lift caps on and off my trucks.
I have an acre of land, so plenty of room. But I personally will not be removing and replacing my SP. I’ll use my utility trailer just because it is so easy. I’ll also use it for carrying extra camping gear during my big game seasons.

Best of luck in finding what works best for you!

Got tired of waiting for new mounts and picked up the “over engineered” mounts. (I have build 42) I beat up on my camper pretty good and got tired of bending X1 parts and loose mounts. Left me a reminder of the old mounts.

The new mounts def clean up the rear compared to the old ones. They are solid but I’m still a bit skeptical. The rails are pretty solid and I haven’t had any issue but can keep tightening and they will just pull the rail more. Ideally there would be another point or a brace to keep the rails flat. Overall it’s better but not sure it’s $400 better. All parts are anodized or powder coated which is nice.

Next is to add a bolted on flat bar like @XPOTRPR has to help tie lip to actually be functional. Here you can see how much my X1 needed to be moved back when I installed the mounts. 2nd Gen and I think 1st gens have issues since it was designed a originally for 3rd gens.

Current ones loosen on me regularly and my X1 shifts forward. They are going to supply new mounts whenever they get to it for certain models but it’s been almost 2 years and was tired of waiting.
