Need a little help... I'm driving up to get my X1 next week and I want to build a wind-fairing for the front to help with MPG on the way back to SoCal and for noise. I know the total width of the bed area is 56in, but there are those angled brackets on the edges that might interfere with my mounting. Can someone tell me the width between the brackets? My guess is that they are 1in wide, so the total inside dimensions are maybe 54in?

I get 54in between those angled brackets. The brackets themselves are 1.5in wide. I'd be curious to see how you're wind fairing turns out

Perfect... Appreciate the quick response. I'm cutting up the acrylic fairing today and mocking up some brackets.

FYI on clamp redesign...I was finalizing my purchase for the 3rd Gen and was advised I got the last set of V2 clamps (by got meaning bought, not given) and they sent me pics of the V3 they are working on... Pics in order of Versions...Original, 2nd and latest. Didn't say when they would be ready nor if they would be the new standard or optional. Maybe cheaper as they look less refined then V2, but only needs to keep the camper on. I just prefer the other over V1.

I still havent had clamp issues, gen 3 Tacoma. But, not that i said it, im sure they will explode over the next speed bump.

Personally, id like to double them all up. 4 clamps per side instead of just the 2.

V3 looks like it would work very well and definitely won't have the cost issues of V2.

FWIW, I've never noticed any extra wind noise with the SP or much if any drop in mpg. Mileage is much more related to speed and elevation changes. If you want to spend less on gas, drive 65 rather than 85.

Nice pic and lighting but it looks like a bug magnet. I rarely want, let alone need, that much illumination in camp.

I ordered a sliding door screen from Amazon and trimmed it to length. It was a little too wide so I bunched 2 inches each side. Top and sides of screen have Velcro and it comes with the corresponding Velcro strip. I stuck it around the tailgate perimeter and it works great. I’m in michigan and we have bugs! It’s held up great for 20+ nights. Here’s the screen I ordered and some pics.

Has anyone had a weboost or has installed one after picking up the X1? I have one I picked up a while ago but never got around to installing it. I was looking for a good install spot that would also have a flip-up or down motion. I have some ideas but seems limited in where you can install it unless you leave it up all of the time. I tried the ram mount they sell and that was crap. It was too heavy and you needed to install it on top of something. I have another mount that is more mechanical in nature I am likely going to go with if i can make it work.

Also I have seen some have it mounted really high and others with it on the rear that is not as high. I assume the higher the better but does anyone that has it low-mounted have feedback on how well it works? One thought was I could mount it to my swingout in a semi-permanent solution. (ie: up all the time). I could fold it but that would make opening the swingout a PIA more than it is now.

That is more or less what I was thinking of doing. Did you set it up to work on the sides or make side versions?

I have one and it works pretty well. I mounted it to the back corner above the rear hatch. You need it up and away from the interior transmitter. It was tricky because the x1 top would hit it while opening in any other location.

Not yet but I think it would work. Not much of a need so far because I just leave the back open all of the time so plenty of air flow and we only open the side doors quickly while camping.

drop a photo of where. I see a lot of folks mount it above the cab. I want to be able to stow it away but most areas do not work. that or I need to re think the mount I have.

I also am interested in your fairing solution.
I did see a drop in mpg and have some sketchy vibration with head winds.

I had considered integrating the fairing bracket with the drip rail similar to this solution on a GFC.
