Go through the dealers website and make a low offer. The internet department for the dealership can sell close to wholesale prices vs the salesmen on hand. The internet sales are more volume based.

I had the same fear when buying mine as it happened to me at another dealership. After talking to the salesman (that I ended up buying from) only via email, he told me he had one coming in "for me". I didn't think that was true because I had not agreed to any price, signed any contract, or put down a deposit. So I called him up about a week from when the truck was supposed to arrive and told him I wanted to come by and check out the other ones they had on the lot and see if there was something I wanted added to mine. Really, I just wanted to meet him in person so he knew I was serious. Still he didn't ask for money or a signature, but he showed me the build order on his computer and where he had entered my name as the customer.

When I went to pick up the truck I still had not talked pricing with him, but there was a "SOLD" sticker on the windshield when I got in to test drive it.

My 2cents for what it's worth.

The older I get, I find that it's the stuff that "just should not be", that really eats at me. When I can...I turn about and go in the other direction immediately! Why spend time with a "rotten smell"?

In your case, if I found out that he was lying about the emissions being different in the other state....I would leave the dealership and not look back. If he lies, he cheats. If he lies to you, he lies to any customer. And if he does not have good ethics, I wont do business with him, because I know up front..HE CAN NOT BE COUNTED ON IF NEEDED.

Just my opinion. Life is too short to try and make things the way they aren't, when you are not in control of the variables.

We have a service company here in our small town, that can order any vehicle from any distributor. Special order. Dont set your sights too low. Research and get what you want at your price.

Gonna go for the sure thing... Flying to Oregon, and picking up the exact truck I want, with the dealer installing my desired additions. Price is competitive, and I will get to learn the truck during the 1100 mile drive home... Spent so many hours last five weeks researching this and working to find it. Am I crazy? A bit, but I am getting what I want with certainty, from an honest dealer, instead of waiting and hoping... Will post pics on delivery.

I just bought a 14 DCSB Sport in San Diego. Not sure what dealer you are looking at but Poway is advertising $2250 (good deal) off all Tacomas. They don't have a big inventory but other dealers will match. Bought mine at Kearny Mesa on a Wednesday afternoon. The finance guy said I was the only deal of the day and the place was deserted! I paid $450 under invoice and I think I could of done better...I didn't even have to fight to get that price.

2014 DCSB TRD Sport, Entune Plus, Tow package MSRP: 30,235, Invoice: 28,432, Dealer Holdbacks: 494

    Paid 27,985 + TTL

I looked up my VIN and it says it was made in Mexico. Being from Texas I wish they had built it in San Antonio. The sales people here really push that, but they make it sound like ALL Tacomas are made in TX.

Cool, that's a nice dealership. I got my last oil change done there since they are only 5 minutes from my work! If you need a ride from the airport I could help you out depending on what day you do it.

In my scenario it was impossible because there was only one on the west coast the exact way I wanted it. I could only get one dealer to do a dealer trade and bring it in. They sold it to me for $500 above dealer invoice, though.

    1. Tell them you've been to a few other dealers

    2. Let them know that you are ready to buy that day if they can get to your price.

    3. Make up a very low ball price. I started at $26,500 ( sticker was $33,400) I ended up at $29,700 and prob could have done a little better but had a trade in too. Other dealers wouldn't match after that so still think I did good.

4.When they counter offer, tell them another dealer offered you a better deal then theirs.

    5. Don't be afraid to Get up and walk out the door, in fact you should walk out and let them call you back. Also when leaving make sure they know that you're going back to other dealer
