An update from a recent TW Offroad meet, here's some basic info & the best pics from it below

    Indian Truck Trail:

Entrance: GoogleMaps Link. Indian Truck Trial starts at the base of the Santa Ana Mountains in the Cleveland National Forest. As the road winds up the moutain it turns into Main Divide Road giving you access to Santiago Peak. The trail is rated as moderate and primarily used for hiking and off road driving; it can easily be done in 2wd. For more information on this trail click this link Dirtopia (warning coordinates are not spot on, but are close as construction has occurred in this area).

I haven't been to either anzaborrego or hungry valley. If you could only go to one place, which would you choose.

    Anza Borrego...hands down.

    IMG_4352 (2).jpg

Great camping...either dispersed (Arroyo Grande area, just south of S22) or structured, Cal State Parks Palm Canyon is great with flush toilets and coin op showers for $25 a night, a fire pit, and pergola cover.

Trails and things to do...Calcite Mine, Truckhaven Area, Sandstone Canyon, Pinyon Mountain just to name a few. Downtown Borrego Springs has actually developed a nice little restaurant scene...Carlee's for cold beer and excellent sandwiches in a clean and safe dive bar environment...Pablito's for awesome margaritas and Mexican food, and Kendall's for manhole sized pancakes to sop up your craft brew hangover.

Hikes...Hellhole Canyon, Palm Canyon, Oriflamme Canyon...Google is your friend.

Don't like the crowds or town?

Then check out Aqua Caliente or Little Blair Valley for camping.

Both provide excellent desolation and night sky viewing that is unparalleled elsewhere. Check out Culp Valley too, designated by astronomers as one of the darkest places on earth for ultimate stargazing.

All of this, and Ocotillo Wells SVRA withing a 30 minute drive if you really want to get your off road "freak" on...mild to wild there. Split Mountain to Blow Sand Hill to a multitude of high speed pole line roads to get your "long travel" on...or just watch the truggies jump and air out.

And, depending on which route you take, Highway 78 through Julian has some of the best apple pie available, but get there early (Julian Pie Co.) because lines form before lunch, and they often run out of the faves by 3pm. A la mode FTW.
