The only hybrid longbed option is a trailhunter

So I guess toyota does not encourage hybrid longbed tacomas to be customized. Trailhunter is priced around $64K. I was hoping for a trd OR LB with a hybrid to potentially build out.

Another baffling choice by Toyota as it concerns the new Tacoma (no access cab; prerunner (why?); TRD-Pro iso seats. etc). The "good" news is that the hybrid does not provide a large efficiency gain, so opting for the Long bed ICE is not the end of the world.

Edit: the non-long bed hybrid theme also holds with the Tundra, so there seems to be little chance of seeing the hybrid versions of long bed models outside the TH.

My 3rd gen already feels underpowered. Even more so with the sliders and load e tires. A 4 cylinder ice even with turbo doesn't make me want to dig deep into my pocket and slap down $55k.

If I start considering a SB, then I would also consider a canyon or ranger. Then the only differentiator would be reliability but that is still TBD with the 4th gen 1st year models.

Simple. Don't buy one. Other products aren't all the sinkholes the internet will tell you.

They'll sell lots of what they make and make lots of money doing it and not fret over the small percentage of special interest buyers they lose.

The ONLY way prices will ever tic down is if people quit paying them.

regear it and it feels 100x better. But that 4cyl turbo is actually pretty peppy if you havent driven it.

No haven't driven one. The thought of having the hybrid made it more appealing. A friend ended up buying another 3rd gen and stuck a SC into it right away.

Fwiw, TFL has reviewed the hybrid Taco and came to the conclusion that it isn't worth it. Sure it has a little more power but the added weight (~600lbs) doesn't make it worth it. You also lose the storage space under the rear seats - something I really value to hold recovery and safety gear.

Exactly my point. Toyota would loose sales to a competitor. The hybrid would make it appealing to stick with tacomas.

Yeah seeing the tq numbers on paper got me really excited, so seeing real world reviews of it was pretty underwhelming.

I have come to the conclusion TFL is all about clicks, not expertise.

They are a youtube channel so they rely on clicks, but I consider them to be decent automotive journalists. Better than a lot of other similar youtube channels. They (for the most part) buy all their own vehicles so their reviews aren't influenced by the manufacturer, can't fault them for that. Roman does get a little annoying at times though.

I wanted Toyota to make the entire Tacoma line up in a cab over configuration and rename the Tacoma 4Runner.

I appreciate Doug's direct comparison to the non-hybrid drivetrain at the very end of his video. I stand corrected and it's not as disappointing as I originally said. TFL was probably coming off of driving their ranger raptor, and it clearly doesn't stand up to that in a 0-60.

2400W inverter is very very cool.

The hybrid is such a big draw for me. The power, the 2400W, the modest fuel savings are awesome. But a 5' bed is a non-starter.

Looking at F-150 hybrids I can get a lot more power and torque, 7400W, and the same mileage, and a 6.5' bed. I'm also seeing $10k in discounts. That whoops the Trailhunter in numbers. I currently drive a Ford car, don't particularly like it, and was hoping for Toyota to come through, but that's such a big disparity.

What would a f150 powerboost with same specs as a trailhunter cost?

I will sit it out and see if they offer a hybrid long bed for 2025. The trailhunter is nice but there is not much opportunity to make it your own build....without paying for things twice.

My premise was that PB stock outclasses TH in those specs that drew me to the MAX (bed length, HP/TQ, bed power, efficiency). But, to answer your question, new PBs start at about $51k (generally $10k off MSRP), just poking around on autotrader.

I'm thinking it won't be long before all automatic TRDs will become hybrid only along with the long bed after that. Until everting but the Xtracab is hybrid only excluding the manual. That's what happened to the Camry.
