Im pretty sure i know the answer to this question but id rather post and ask my fellow taco owners since you guys have experience with plasti dip and i don't. I've been thinking about plasti dipping my aluminum rims on my 05 yfz 450. They mount flush against my hubs and the lugs will mount flush on my rim also. Would that affect the finish on my rims since there would be a substantial amount of force on them or when i tighten my lugs against my rims, would it affect the finish?
    Thanks guys, Nick

If I'm reading this correctly, you'll rip the plastiderp right off. It's not strong at all.

Your rims should be find as long as nothing touches the rim while in motion. My concern would be how long the plasti-dip actually lasts depending on the terrain your ride in. Give it a shot, worse comes to comes just peel it off.

Okay I probably should have specified that these rims are on my paddles for the dunes and that's the only type of terrain that they will experience.

Honestly I'd just do it right and get them powder coated...

Okay, that that I was leaning towards. I just thought I would ask you guys. Thanks for the help. I'm also going to paint my lower valance in the spring since they dump salt on the roads up in northern Michigan. Should be able to spray a could coats on there or should I use some adhesion promoter before I begin spraying?

For your rims I would go with powdercoat. But you would still be amazed at the chips and paint flakes you'd get in the sand. That's all I ride out here and when I painted some of my fairings black after a while the red would start showing through. For your valance though if you are going to use plastidip just make sure it's clean and dry and do 3-5 coats and call it a day. 30 minutes in between coats. I'd do it towards the end of the day when you're not going to drive it for a while so it can sit overnight.

This. Plus it'd be easy to touch up after a few months when it gets beat up... just spray some more. Check out the plastidip videos on youtube, there's even a trick to keep it level with some sort of solvent solution to reliquify it.

Thanks Fiend13, I might just leave them plain aluminum if the powder coat will tend to chip. I usually go to the dunes at least 8-10 time throughout the year and I don't really want to have to worry about touch-ups after every couple times I go

Same here but I'd go almost every weekend. But it's hard to find just plain sand out here it's usually sand and rock, big rocks, gravel, basically a rocky, dessert terrain. I honestly don't know how a powdercoat will hold up. I would just hate to pay the money to have it done to only last a few trips before chipping starts.

That's a good way to look at it. Ill leave them a bare aluminum and not have to worry about it. Thanks again

4 cases of cans should do the job...don't want the coats to be too thin
