I wonder what the new aluminum color looks like...anybody have any ideas as to whether or not it will match the silver mica paint color? I am thinking about using it on my chrome bumper if it closely matches the silver mica of my truck...

The metallic derp peels like the original, I was going to get the aluminum derp as well, because I have SS Mica for my truck color, but 3 cans of the anthracite gray and clear was over $40, and I would have had no use for it other than a comparo. Other than this mod of derping the rear bumper, I'm also building my first AR-15, and money is tight for cool shit.

I plastidipped the chrome grille and bumper inserts in the 99 Taco. It looks great for the first few thousand miles before you get a ton of rock chips on them. Re-spraying it covers up the shinny chrome underneath but I always got an uneven layer and could still see the pitting of the prior chip.

Only way to get a clean is pealing it off and respraying. It was a pain in the ass to peel/repaint every time and got old. I just pealed it all off in the end and just used good old black spray paint to permanently black it out.

Just curious, why not do it in a different color, that the Tacomas don't already come in stock?

Tacomas don't come in matte red with black hoods and tailgates..

    And because I like red.

I'm already pondering the idea around though of adding a camo theme to it.

Just un-derped my blacked-out badges. Amazed at how well the WD-40 worked at getting the stuff to soften up and come off.

Leaving the lower valance on the front bumper for now. Jury's still out on it.

Might do my wheels soon - haven't decided for sure whether to bother yet since I'm planning on replacing them when money permits.

Would be curious to see a good comparison between the anthracite and MGM... I'm probably going to paint my chrome rear bumper soon, and if it was a fairly close match that might be a good alternative.

I can't believe it's derp! I was spraying the rear bumper yesterday and today. Make sure you wear a respirator, there was metal flake flying all over in the air! I always wear one when doing anything like this anyway.

Looks great so far, I've got 7/8's of one can on, which is about 5 coats, the last one really wet. Tomorrow comes the glossifier and I'll post up some pics then.

Didnt see that you were doing the black too. You should get some carbon fiber decals and do the hood in that instead :notsure:

not really a fan of 'faking' the carbon fiber look. if i was gonna do it i would just buy a CF hood itself.

but like i said i already have plans to camo the truck, red base with black and grey, maybe even a little white camo patterns going on. will throw my all terrains on it so it looks a little meaner and not like a street truck

I can't wait to see the pics. And good call on the respirator.

Did you tape it off and spray it on the truck? I'm looking to do mine soon....

    Derped a flare.

Only derped one so far since the weather turned sour and it needs a few hours to dry anyway. One of my flares the previous owner dropped a ladder on and exposed some of the fiberglass so I'm going to get a repair kit before I paint that one. I also cleaned and waxed underneath where the flares go for the two I took off.

Finished using the new Plastidip Anthracite gray on my chrome rear TRD bumper. 5 coats of gray derp, the last two heavy and three coats of clear derp with one coat heavy.

I hadn't realized what a POS the stock bumper was until I started to take off the plastic parts. I got all plastic off, except for the piece under each tail light. I wrestled with those for a few minutes before I decided not to push my luck and break them. I actually was moving the metal bumper it was so thin and flimsy. Anyway, I tried to get a close up of the derp to the body panel so you can see any metal flake and the sheen of the clear.

The derp dries to a matte finish, maybe with a slight sheen. Three coats of glossifier derp bumped the sheen up to a semi-gloss. I started to get short on clear and I still want to re-sleeve my fogs with gray and clear, so I didn't put a fourth coat on. Would it have made a huge difference? I'm not sure, but it wouldnt have hurt. I like it, and prep was simple. Used Windex and towels to clean the bumper until no dirt was on the towel. Then used Eastwood's PRE cleaner, which strips wax, silicone, grease, tar etc. and let that dry before derping.

One mistake I made was getting too eager to untape the plastic trim that I was unable to remove. Instead of using a new box cutter blade and breaking the "seal" of the derp to tape, I started to eff up my newly derped bumper by peeling a small part. I stopped, cut the seal, and was able to reattach the derp like a sticker. Just had to push out the air bubbles. A very small part of chrome was showing right next to the trim. No one would see this, but I knew it was there and couldn't stand it. I kept touching it up with a small paintbrush drenched with derp to make a continuous surface, now I'm satisfied.

Nice job! Looks really good. I've had two cans of black plastidip sitting on my workbench just waiting to use on something. I think I'm gonna try it on my T on the front grill first. I thought a out doing my wheels too but I think I like them silver.
