So... what happens when you wash it? In my mind, I would think it would just come right off, or at least start to peel around the edges, is this wrong?

I used 4 or 5 coats on mine with about 10min between each coat. also the angle you use to peel off the derp is important too, I used a shallow angle (tried to keep it close to the truck). I also used a tooth pick to get in between the letters.

here is the video i used to do mine.

Question... anybody have this style rim with the fake beadlock. I tried to replace the bolts but the thread area seems to be oval instead of round

I've had my wheels and badges dipped for about 6 months and havent needed to touch them up once. probably 4 car washes in that time, all of them in a standard gas station car wash with wipers.

I dipped my grille surround and front chrome emblem about a month ago. I've gone through the touchless car wash at least 4 times and have put 6,500 miles on the truck since I did the dipping. Everything is holding up fine. I'll be doing the valance and badges soon. All black dip so far and will continue that way.

Anybody ever plasti-dip a golf cart? I have this bad boy in the garage that I've been thinking about painting, but now I'm thinking plasti-dip may be the way to go. Ideas and suggestions welcome!

Only thing I can say is be careful if you dry them, they love to pickup fabric fibers. Otherwise it is extremely durable.

I dipped my rear bumper a year and a half ago and even with wheeling it I still haven't had to touch it up.

What did you use to prep the badges before you dipped them? Were they clean? Were they dry? The two things that you didn't do right is that you didn't add enough coats, you should have at least 6 coats. With the stock nozzles that come with the cans they are very thin sprays, more passes to make it thicker. You should start off thin and then get thicker as you go along. I usually waited 15 minutes per coat, just to make sure they were dry. On your last coat don't wait the 15 minutes. As soon as you finish spraying your last coat, take the tape and the excess off.

If it's done properly then you shouldn't have any problems. As long that your prep was done properly. You have enough coats. The project your dipping is clean, dry. It's only going to be peeling/lifting around the edges of something gets under it(like liquid for example). I wash my truck with a pressure washer and never had any issues.

I haven't had any issues on my bumpers or grill with peeling. Main thing I do is make sure they are wet and use dish soap and water on a microfiber towel to rub down. make sure its soaked. Also pressure washing has been fine too, but I rub down to make extra clean.

You can also use Simply Green to clean dip projects as well.

Follow up on someone else's question.

I'm looking to go with anthracite on all four stock OR wheels, chrome bumper, badges and grille insert (going to do the surround in white). Someone mentioned going with a couple coats of black first then finishing up with the anthracite (to keep cost down since it's almost twice as much). Also, what is everyone's thoughts on the glossifier afterwards (including the grille surround)? I'm thinking two cans of black, two of anthracite, obviously a white and one glossifier (or two)? I guess biggest question is how many anthracite since I can't get that in a local store?

I would get at least 4 cans of anth. For touch up and since you can't just run out and buy.

So you're saying on the last coat, remove all my masking/tape and start peeling excess away when it's still wet?

On my badges I just let them dry, I then pull away from the emblem when removing excess. The space between the truck and emblem should let you tear it away without messing with the dip on the emblem.

Yeah the tailgate emblems typically don't have a gap between the paint and emblem so pulling the tape up after the last coat works best, for me at least. I would recommend doing one or two light Coats then spray the equivalent of 3 coats all at once, and after you can start to pull the tape. That way you get the clean lines your looking for.

Just derped my badges. Looks awesome. Can't wait for a little more warmth to do my wheels. It will only upload one photo, but you get the idea. Gotta say be patient and make sure everything is DRY! I was impatient and after I was done noticed there was a little water in the "o". I far it's help up but I will re dip at some point because it bugs me. With that said I've washed it with a power washer and didn't affect the derp at all. I thought it would be toast considering inside the "o" it's not perfect and has a place water can easily get under and peel up. If you're afraid about durability don't be. It looks great and will last as long as you want.
