Scoop insert, valence, and the black part of the grill. I had a color matched silver streak grill but swapped it for a chrome. It was off an '09 so it had that gunmetal color in the middle. Black is meaner. I think I need to sleeve the fog lights now and it would look more complete.

Have to agree. After I did all the emblems on my Toyota other than the chrome Toyota on the grille, a buddy of mine loved the results so we went out and dipped all the chrome on his F150, a work friend of his loved the results and we dipped his emblems. Dipping is becoming contagious with our group of friends and collegues. Such a simple and expensive mod and if done right looks great and if it doesn't easy enough to get rid of.

How difficult was Plasti-dipping the emblems?

(cleaning, then cutting dip off at end? what about taping?)

bumper was easy. I think it is called the 'valence'. I taped it real good and then put newspaper/plastic bags over the rest of the bumper. I made one very light pass across the whole thing and let it sit for about 1 minute. I then hit it with about half the can evenly spreading it so it didn't get thick in any spots (it took me 3 times to get my technique right. The 1st 2 times it either bubbled up or made shiny spots from not moving the can quick enough.) I let the 2nd coat sit for about 1 minute and then hit it with about 1/4 of the can evenly again. The trick to straight lines is taking the tape off right away. If you leave it it will dry and the derp will peel off with the tape. Just do it slowly and it will leave a nice straight line.

The fogs were much more difficult, mainly because it is a circle and it's hard to get the tape down without it looking boxey. I used a lot of little pieces and worked my way around and then had to eyeball it from all different angles to make sure it didn't have any corners and looked like a smooth circle. If you get in there and look at it really close it still has some small pointy spots but it's hard to tell with any kind of distance between. The worst part was getting the lights back in. If you can find a way to tape it with leaving them in I would say go that route. They have a little screw on the bottom of their backside that was really difficult to get back in. I also did the same technique above with the light coat for a 1 min and then heavy, but it didn't really dry as well because it was runny since it is such an awkward shape being painted. If I do it again I think I would do at least 1 more coat, or lighter coats so it can't run...

If you have a scoop and choose to do that, get a deck of cards and line it with that. I wish everything could work with the card technique, so much easier...

Alright, I did my valence yesterday. Might do the fogs. I need to get some glossifier though and add it to the valence and badges.

I didn't do the glossifier. When I did my door window pads I tried the glossifier and it ruined it. Looked like someone dribbled elmers glue all over it...

I mean not to be a dick here or a know it all, but your process of dipping might've done that.

It's better to do a few or more light coats of dip, let dry for 5 mins each one or so then do some heavier ones letting them dry for 5 to 10 mins until you get the result you want. I tend to put on a thick coat.

Yeah, well on that particular go of it I was on a different process. I did about 5 coats of derp with 10-15 minutes between each. BUT I was outside in the sun, so the dip itself looked bad. It still didn't look that bad until I sprayed the gloss on...I like how my last round turned out on my scoop, valence, and grill so I'm not going to chance it with the spray on goo:rolleyes:

I did it in my garage this last time. I did do the fog lights in the driveway and it dried funky but it's such a small area it's not as noticeable

Ah nice video! And yea, I try to dip in shade, low humidity. I think I'm gonna get glossifier if I can just so the dip itself lasts longer and comes clean easier

I didn't do the stock but I did my TRD rims. Turned out good. I did get a little carried away and did my fiancé 2013 dart. You can do the index card method or just some good old fashion tape and paper if you keep the rims on when you paint. I took the darts rims off and just taped the tire. Looks so much better

Did my grill and bumper this weekend...not perfect but looks good...the edges were the tricky part, I did not peel the tape off right away, let them dry and they peel when I tried to take the tape off...oh well, will keep that in mind next time I do it....
