I wouldn't mind going to a shop and painting everything chrome gun metal color and pair it with those SCS wheels that are advertised on here ( Stealth 6's )

I don't think I have enough patience to re- paint it every year or 2... steep price difference though.

COST is the biggest draw back of having it "professionally" done and it's reversible.

    Yes I believe you're right.
I'm looking into powder coating vs paint myself right now, reached out to a local place specializing in it..... seems like each part you do is about 50-100 bucks.

At that math, your looking at 350 or so compared to maybe 20 dollars in cans.

I looked into powder coating my rims. Cheapest bid I got was $100 a rim. I can dip them for $6 a rim.

The weather was finally in the 60s and not raining and I was able to plasti dip my stock wheels. They look so much better. Depending on how well this holds me over I might have saved myself $1,500+ on not having to buy new rims and tires. I already have a hefty investment of aftermarket car audio that will be going into the truck once it warms up for good and I can complete a custom audio install.

I've been contemplating whether I want to do the running boards or not. I'd unmount them if I do to make it easier.

I dipped my wheels and emblems about 18 months ago. Just rotate them yourself and be careful.
It was a nice way to see if I liked the black or not. I'll strip them and paint them this summer.

Love this thread. New to TW and still finding my way around and bumped into this. Might have to call in sick so I can sort through 288 pages on plasti-dip. Also so I can actually dip my wheels. Great looking work to all!

Extra Armour All on the tires will allow the Plasti to peel from the rubber (no masking) Make sure the rim is clean!

I Have had mine dipped for a while now, and aside from the scuffs where I left my ladder leaned against my travel trailer when I backed up, the dip still looks like the day I sprayed it on.

And now that the weather is warming up, a few minutes and a bit of dip and those scuffs will disappear.

I just did my wheels and rear chrome bumper a few weeks ago, ordered the anthracite color form dipyourcar website. Was pretty easy, did about 5 coats on each, and still have prob 1/2 can left over. The anthracite is obviously matte and doesn't give an exact match from bumper to tailgate on the MGM, but it is pretty close. May use a rattle can of cover match over the dip on the bumper, but probably not for a while:

Yeah I hated the chrome. On the grill i just ordered a color matched surround and sold my chrome one on ebay. I decided when i dipped the toyota emblems on the wheel center caps it was a little too dark though, so went back and left the yota symbol chrome, i think its just the right amount with the silver lug nuts.
