That’s genius! That opens up so many options for integrating Prinsu and Yakima accessories. And it just so happens that I work in a bike shop, Love it!

    It's complicated.
How do I get in contact with anyone at Prinsu (or CBI OffRoad Fab)? I need a few questions answered about fitting a Prinsu Top Rack & ARE MX Series canopy. I've emailed and left voice mail messages in the last week, and no response.

    Thanks.

Ask here. CBI customer service is not the best. I miss the old days of Zach.

Thanks. Here's the email I sent:

I was speaking with the guys atTruckBrigade.com, about a Prinsu Top Rack (long bed) for my A.R.E. MX Series canopy--and we discovered that there's a likely issue with the MX, due to the curvature of its shell top.

TruckBrigade spoke with Mike, at Prinsu, who suggested that there *could* be a workaround, by using washers to shim the Top Rack to the canopy rails. He recommended that I contact Prinsu/CBI directly.

Do you know if the Prinsu Top Rack is reasonably/easily adaptable to the A.R.E. MX canopy? Is it possible to do, using washers acting as shims (or is there a better way?) without causing stresses to the shell itself? Do you have any photos from customers who have successfully done so? Or do you recommend against it altogether?

I have a double cab long bed TRD OR.

I wouldn't use too many washers to shim the rack. One or two is fine, but the more you use, the taller the rack is off the shell and that will compromise the structural integrity of the rack; load capacity etc.

^ Agreed, but I've not found any photos (anywhere) where someone has mounted a Prinsu long bed Top Rack onto an ARE MX canopy... which likely means that it's not doable.

I figured that either CBI or Prinsu would definitely know... and could advise.

The curvature I referred to in my email was the forward/aft curvature... I hadn't even considered the possibility of an outward cant to the MX canopy. Don't know if there is one, which means there's one additional item to consider.

This is my roof rack. This was the solution Prinsu told me to use to account for the curvature of my shell. I've had this rack fully loaded several times and haven't had any issues. I'm sure I could have found one solid spacer instead of stacking washers but this was what I had to work with at the time and haven't had any issues so I have no plans of changing it. I would be interested to hear why this is the wrong thing to do or see examples of what can go wrong.

You can buy different height mounting feet from prinsu. You would place a shorter foot in the middle. I believe I have heard Prinsu allowing you to swap two standard feet out with shorter feet.

    Good to know, thanks.

If I get a call back from Prinsu or CBI, I will also ask about the different mounting feet.

Question: could you have run a wire from the negative battery terminal, to a ground distribution block at the rear of the truck--to use as a ground point for all of your accessories?

No need to run your ground wires directly to the battery. You can just ground to the frame, or to almost any piece of metal in the truck really.
