I’m getting 16 mpg and I’m actively trying to get better MPG by changing my driving habits. Close to just saying screw it all and floor it.

    16mpg in 2021 is like 10mpg in 1991.

There are plenty of people here who put less than 5000 miles on their trucks in a year. They don't mind low mileage. I drive 80 miles a day almost 5 days a week in this truck just commuting. The "tax" is less painful to those who use the truck as a toy.

    Just a reminder....

your truck depreciates 1k for every 10k miles and 1k for for every year old.

so these drivers pay a yearly @1500 non refundable luxury tax to just own the thing.

But then there are other cost indicators to consider. Like total cost of ownership per mile. Depreciation. Etc. From a utility/money standpoint, people waste a crap-ton on vehicles.

Some people are loaded, and money isn’t an object to them. But the majority of us would probably do well to examine our spending habits.

I can’t imagine being rich enough where a $30k+ vehicle is a “toy”. No offense

I always keep my rev between 2000-3000 RPM, and even on highway I just get 17 mpg and the truck is pretty much stock. I highly doubt you can get better mpg unless you keep the rpm below 2k and that feels like lugging the engine to me

what speed? Drag plays a big part in low highway fuel efficiency with our trucks.

I live in a rural, hilly area. I waste a lot of gas climbing hills, but can make up for a lot by coasting effectively coming back down. I also spend most of my driving between 35-60 mph.

I'm not rolling in dough so I get it but some people just like their toys. I grew up where people would live in squalor but have a $40,000 truck and put another $15,000 into it. I'm just not surprised.

Edit: I look at my truck payment and full coverage insurance and think about how much I have to work every month just for the truck. I hate debt so that crap is gone well ahead of maturity date. But lots of people.... meh. The price for their vice, long loans and poor mileage.

Oh I said it all lol. I can completely turn your premise around with simple math!
It is what it is. Simply put, do you want miles per gallon or smiles per gallon. Smiles are a premium lol.

    15k miles at 15mpg is 1,000 gallons, 3 bucks a gallon is $3000.

    So I'm saving $400 a year and I get a V8? That's math I can get behind

oh yes, I get that. I live in a mobile home park. I can’t get over how many have brand new vehicles in the driveway.

Everyone’s got different goals and priorities, of course. But my wife and I are agreed that we won’t have a brand new personal vehicle until there’s $1mil+ in our savings (and even then, it’ll probably be something practical, lol)

back it off to 70 for a week, and see if your fuel consumption doesn’t improve.

If you’re concerned about gas you shouldn’t consider a truck in the first place.

toyota says 23mpg highway. Anyone getting close to that?

Goes in for fill up, gas station charges 25% extra than advertised. Oh well.

16mpg say some, I would lose it.

well, unless you truly need a truck. And you’re cross-shopping trucks for something most efficient. I went with a Tacoma instead of a Tundra, for instance. I very much needed a truck, and many people recommended a larger one. But I enjoy fuel efficiency.
