Glad your finally getting yours back after such a long wait! I am picking my truck up today as well. Just shy of 3 weeks. I didnt put much miles on the rental though, just a tank full, maybe 350 miles or so...I was pretty surprised when I got the call, since the SA told me 3 months! Hopefully the wait isnt as long now that they are starting to get parts in. My SA said the wait is now closer to 1-2 weeks, since they can still only order parts after they have the truck in possession. The service guys are working a choke load of OT to get these out ASAP!

Yeah, I am happy it only took 3 weeks. The Lincoln MKC was nice to drive for the 3 weeks. Enterprise had a choke load of Frontiers so the guys bringing in their trucks now are fortunate. I was about 100 in line 3 weeks ago so they cranked them out.

just wondering, how did yours look? I could tell mines was pretty clean, nuts were new, at first i even thought i had a whole new assembly (but it was really just wiped down and really clean). Co-workers husband had his quicksand and his was fairly clean as well. Its been about 3 weeks since i got mine back and so far no sign of any weeping/leaks. Crossing fingers

Its pretty clean now, no sign of any oil leaks. They didnt make it spic and span or anything like that, but I would be able to tell if it should start leaking again. Also, looks like all new bolts and nuts under there. I did take some before and after pics for my records. Also, had them flash the trans and it does feel alittle better. They also found it was a quart low in the trans, so they filled it up.

I turned in my truck around July 4th 2017 and got it back at the end of August 2017

Fast forward to May 2018. I was talking to a neighbor about the rear diff recall and after my convo i went to look under my truck and im weeping even worse than how my truck was when I gave it to Servco Windward back in July 2017. Last year I had a few spots. This time I have spots and weeping areas all over the diameter. Needless to say i wanna swear and say really bad things.

I guess I got to make a call tomorrow to my neighborhood Servco and see how this goes.

FWIW, i did buy the extended warranty as well. Guess we will see how good that and the overall warranty service is..... (more swear words).

I never got a recall notice but I do see some condensation around the seal of my rear diff. What does toyota classify as a “leak”?

i did a couple and just used rtv. it seems like the factory castings on the axle housing face where the 3rd member bolts up may have minor defects to where the 3rd member doesn't sit flush on the housing. if they're only replacing the paper gasket seal and torquing it down, there is still going to be diff fluid leaking out very slowly because its not sitting completely flush. the RTV will fill those voids. i know the dealer recall is free but for some of you who don't want to wait and be inconvenienced, you should take it apart, get rid of the paper gasket, and use RTV sealant. :hattip:

if you see some dark coloring seepage anywhere around the differential housing near the seal, then they will repair it under the recall. I am sure parts are readily available now that it has been over a year since the recall announcement so the wait shouldnt be that long.

Bring it in to Servco to have it checked. Just keep in mind, since this is a safety recall and if they dont have parts in stock, they will hold your truck and give you a loaner. I think enough time has passed so parts shouldn’t be an issue though.

I brought mine in beginning if Aug 2017 got back by the end of the month (3 weeks). As of now, still no more seepage.

Everyone is going to continue having the leaky diff problem. Its a manufacturing defect where the castingof the diff and axle housing isnt flush. Almost like its minutely warped. The only way to solve this problem is using RTV sealant. Theyre gonna keep changing the paper gasket and still it wont seal flush.

I still have to do this. So glad I got the recall notice a few days before my daughter was born. So a year later I should get this done ASAP. I just hate dealing with servco

I just made an appointment the other day for September for my 30k service they called me back to tell me there were outstanding recalls. They told me they might have to keep my truck longer. I asked them they have know about this for a while an I have scheduled 20k and 25k and then asked why the service tech didn’t tell me I was on the recall list for over a year. Guess what, no answer for that.
