    Why a marine battery?
I think the plain l platinum should be plenty...and they're 250$ before any discounts.
When I bought mine I found a 20% off coupon online so that put it at 200+tax

Agreed, that does seem pricey to me. I haven't exactly been looking at that market tho either. Do it right the first time tho I guess right?

Yea and for me, it eliminates the need for a dual battery setup. You all know I like to show off my lights, leaving the halos on, saber whips, and rtt lighting with a potential ARB fridge in the future will be safer with a deep cycle

For my setup no, unless I try to fit a winch in there somewhere, that deep cycle will be hard to kill with a nice solar panel setup

The extent of my Expo research is watching Expedition Overland, Mountain State Overland, Expedition Portal and looking at builds in my spare time. It seems that a lot of guys are still running dual batteries. One for the truck and the other deep cycle marine for accessories. I'm yet to look into a solar system though.
I think the most shocking thing I've read is youre not going with a winch! Is that a good idea? Can't always count on someone else to pluck you out of a bad situation especially with you liking to venture alone.

Been wheeling for 7 years without a winch both at work and my own time, I think I'll be fine without one for awhile longer. When the upgrade maybe comes I'll get the extra battery. I don't venture into extreme by myself, risky yes, but I've never wheeled on a trail by myself that would have needed a winch to get out of. I haven't actually needed a tug/tow since Rice Peak from @JeepAndrew
