1st gen Tundra let you carry a 4ft wide sheetrock beteen the wheel wells. I wish my Taco did that.

Ranger and Ridgeline can do it, not sure why Toyota can’t figure it out for the Tacoma, of course there are a lot things Toyota does or doesn’t do leaves me scratching my head

Fit on the top of the wheel wells, yes. That leaves a lot of board unsupported, especially when I buy 10ft sheets.

You could put planks across for support and use the tailgate like this guy:

I end up doing something similar. It is just stupid that competing truck in the same segment allow 4ft wide materials in the bed, and Taco does not.

Toyota should have been able to easily widen the space between the wheel wells on the 4th gen since they pushed the wheels further out to make a wider stance. Why would you not do that? It makes no sense.

For what reason would they need to widen the bed?

Then the Tacoma would be a full size truck. I bet they purposely don't do that to push sales for their full sized truck.

It’s also useful for fitting pallets and anything else you put in the bed like storage totes while camping. More space is better.

No, it would not. Ranger is a direct competitor to Tacoma, and space between the wheel wells accomodates 48" wide plywood. Does not take away from F150 sales.
Same with Honda Ridgeline. Surely it is not a full size truck, but it carries a 4x8 sheet n
