That is likely the reason. The LC is a heavier pig and aerodynamics isn't as good with the upright windshield and squared off body. Under equal conditions, the LC otherwise would've gotten worse fuel economy numbers than the Tacoma.

So probably just a different ECU tune for power. Increased compression so higher octane is needed maybe. Just speculating.

The 200-series LC which typically sold for six figures was spec'd for 87 octane in the owner's manual.

There may be other reasons like worse airflow for intake or intercooling, but no way to make even an educated guess on it. Recall the 2010+ FJ made 10 fewer hp than the 4R with the same dual VVTi 1GR. It was reportedly due to worse airflow. This time around the LC 250 is positioned higher than the 2025 4R, so it can't advertise less power than the 4R.

That was the old Toyota. The new Toyota is striving to become one with Lexus.

There has never been a Toyota-badged Land Cruiser with a six figure MSRP in the US market.
FOMO and FUD pushed some buyers to pay more than that for new and used Heritage trims with the news of there being no more Land Cruisers.

He said “typically sold for” not MSRP.

Did we change what the word "typically" means?
The 200 Series was offered in the US market from 2008 through 2021. It wasn't until Toyota announced they were discontinuing the model, that selling prices actually began to increase. Up to that point, discounts off the $80 something grand MSRP were "typical."

I parked next to a new GX550. They look pretty nice and look like a perfect size vehicle for a family truckster. I don’t want anything to do with that engine though. :(

I’ve never been a fan of the Armada but now that it’s one of the last of the SUVs with a V8 and also 400hp my opinion my change.

It’s the US version of the Nissan patrol which has always been the LC200s biggest competitor.

Biggest change for the US is 4 wheel independent suspension but if it’ll see pavement 99% of the time it’ll (in theory) ride better than something with a solid axle in the rear

So the Japanese have the LC250 without the hybrid because they know it’s bullshit. Which means Toyota CAN build them that way.

Definitely not buying one until they start offering one without the electric BS.

You probably won’t be buying one then. Electric isn’t going away.

I think when they realize people aren’t buying them they’re going to offer cheaper models without the hybrid. Because clearly they are making them for other markets.
