So how do I convince the wife it’s a waste?

 

if you have someone close to you that has it, make her set it up herself

 

Get rid of the wife? Of course I’m kidding, kind of.

You’ll end up getting it to satisfy her anyway. So....

Option 1- have HER setup and take down annex after your tent duties. Sell it on here after your first few trips when she grows tired of the hassle.
Option 2- just don’t buy it and get her a privacy type tent.

Good luck. And those would be my tactics. But I’m no longer married and enjoy the outdoors with my son now.

 

Add me to the list of folks who got one thinking it would come in handy. Never even tried to set it up. I had planned to, just never decided it was worth the effort so it has sat in a box untouched for three years.

 

Lessons learned from my dad, he showed me 3 times, getting rid of the wife is expensive

 

...An hour or so after we set out for the morning, we finally broke through the thickest of trees and into a high-mountain meadow - views of Pearl Pass rising up before us and terrain becoming more rocky under our tires. As if we hadn't stopped enough already, Monte quickly slowed in the lead vehicle and soon we were all out admiring the first real pass that we'd conquer on this trip....

Mine is still in the box, unopened, since I bought it two years ago.

 

Trying to decide which rtt to get. I’m in between a front runner or the smittybilt gen 2. Read about 100 pages and not much feed back on the front runner rtt. Any recommendations on which is better?

 

May I suggest you take a look at Desert Armor?

 

I have a Smittybilt 2nd gen. I love it. It's roomy and looks good.

Only if you said "there, there's no way that can go anywhere now" after you finished tightening the strap

 

Will the shell vs cab make much difference? I’m thinking about moving mine from a bedrack to the cab. I’ve got an UpTop for the cab.

 

I’m worried about stressing the shell out

I miss camping. Its going to suck being a ground peasant for the next 11 months. Im going this weekend and next weekend. I guess more room for my buddy heater on the ground

 

just got back from Vt. My tent is up against the wall in the garage waiting for the trailer build to be done. Before the trip I was going back and forth between my ground tent and the awning room. Given the temps and easier to run the mr buddy I went awning room.. RTTs are so normal now I think it’s cooler to sleep back on the ground (cot).
