I have had my CVT up in a few bad storms, wind only and wind and rain both. I was very impressed with how little the rain fly flapped. It was way tighter and solid than any ground tent I have ever been in.

one windy night camping with the fly bouncing around didn't bother me too much, though i didn't sleep too much with my gf complaining about it all night.

I’ve been in some pretty nasty storms in my llbean ground tent, and every time I set it up completely it’s been fine, but that’s typically with some tree cover and what not. This is my biggest fear with the rtt.

Those of you with the CVT MT Shasta extended edition (Pioneer series), I'm looking at picking up a used one this weekend. Curious as to what y'all have to say about them? Thanks in advance.

Has anyone discovered a cheap alternative to an anti condensation mat? Like something not marketed as an anti condensation mat but you can just cut it to fit and it works just as well.

Or if anyone has an inexpensive one they’d recommend. Tepui wants $150 for theirs for the 2 person tent and I have a hard time swallowing that pill.

Speaking of which, I’m joining the rtt gang again. I picked up this used 2 person tepui tent. I’ll build some 6” rise bed bars for it once I get some time.

I used .75" foam board insulation from Lowe's. So far it has worked good for us.

Added a handle and a third latch to my odyssey. That way I can grab the handle to open and pull closed instead of reach over to grab the body of the tent.

This photo makes the handle look like it’s 6” wide :bananadead: but it’s only 2”

My Ayer II (same one as you just older) came with some heavy duty foil lined bubble wrap stuff under the mattress. Looks factory but Im not 100% sure cause I got the RTT used.

Not exactly sure how well it works as anti-condensation (given its solid and not aerated) but it might be worth looking into. Certainly good enough to keep the mattress from directly touching the floor.

Thanks, I'll take a peek once I open mine up, just haven't had the chance yet. For all I know there's already a mat in there.

I'm excited to give it another chance with the new setup. My previous RTT was on top of a camper shell and I hated it being that high. Acted like a sail on the highway, difficult to set up, made me real tippy offroad, etc. This new one being 60 lbs lighter and mounted below the roofline should be the key to success for me.

Agreed. With what you’re doing regularly one that high would wheeling sketch.

If I had a long bed I’d definitely put mine below the roofline. #shortbedproblems

I have a shortbed too now, sorta. With the Vertical spare behind the rear window, make that a 4' bed. Space is a real premium now lol

edit: but at least I have the extra space in front of the wheel wells that comes on long beds. That allows me to put my spare and CO2 at the very front. Wouldn't be room there in an actual short bed.

you could try that mesh anti slip mat for carpets. Same principle. Elevates the mattress for a bit of airflow.
