Smart move. That's about where I'm at with my garage door. The ceiling isn't the problem it's the door. My solution? Tiny wheels to get into the garage just to take the tent off using a ceiling hoist. Remember, it ain't stupid if it works!

That's hilarious, I've never heard of anyone doing that. It definitely works, I'll give it to you.

I just checked I don't have any. But I promise you it is absolutely as hilarious as it looks. I'm always afraid someone is going to drive by and take a picture and I'm going to end up as some meme.

It definitely works, but it's a major pain in the ass, so now the tent only goes on in the spring and off at the start of winter, when before when I had it on a bed rack I'd take it off whenever I wasn't planning on using it. I've gone so far as to casually contemplate how much work it would be to raise the threshold of the garage opening by another foot. The verdict? It's definitely cheaper to sell the soft shell and buy a GFC

I like this logic, I may apply it to my situation as well. I pull my RTT off the bed rack a handful of times a year because my big ole bitch wouldnt fit in the garage even with teeny tires. I would love to plop down the coin for a GFC and never look back.

How low is your garage door? Before I bought the tiny tires I lowered my tires to 6 PSI, and put over 600 pounds in the bed. That worked, but the wife didn't like being used as a weight, and moving the rest was more work than changing two tires.

I measured it before I put taller tires on and the whole setup was just shy of 4" too high. I now have a couple inches worth of taller tire, and I'm about to get a Caliraised roof rack that will sit proud of the RTT. It's a bummer, but my plan right now is to get a fun car to put in the garage instead.

That sounds like good thinking to me. Not even a wife could argue with that iron clad logic.

Luckily my girlfriend has no financial influence over me. I just need to convince my bank account is all :bananadead:

What size tires are these? This is the exact same issue my friend has and we thought of this exact idea (among many, many other ridiculous ideas).

I bought the cheap rims on CL for $20, and the tires are 205/40R16s off a site called bestusedtires.com (even though they were new, that was the cheapest I could find in that size). Tried to mount them on the rims myself, which was a mistake! Paid Mavis to mount but saved $ by not paying for a balancing lol

I am in this EXACT situation. Aired down with people on the tailgate and still tall by 2".

Yep. I shoot shotguns competitively so I hand load my own ammo since I shoot a lot. I buy lead shot in 25 pound bags. I put 450 pounds of lead in the bed, plus the wife, plus airing down to 6 PSI and that was just enough to clear. Moving all that weight was more work than just putting on these two ridiculously looking tires.

Ain't stupid if it works! You could also run bare rims without tires if you really want to have a good time, but I didn't want to chew up my cement.

One of the ideas I had, that I’m still proud of, was get some 16” steelies and weld some bars laterally, like every 4” or so. Then go get some semi tire tread off the side of the highway and bolt it onto the wheel. Ultimate low profile setup.

I’m over here playing little league, and you’re hitting homers in the big leagues. That’s a thinking man’s low profile wheel right there.
