I usually use firewood. I always have it on hand and I can stack multiple pieces high if needed. I've also used the air in my tires to level out as well if the wood isn't enough, i.e. inflate the drivers side up high and drop the passenger side to single digits.

I have the medium CVT Mt Hood weighs almost 200#. It’s on a leer 100xr (or something like that). I have TC bed stiffeners.

I might mention that I had a roof rack on the camper shell for a couple years before I got the tent and have thousands of miles of dirt with either gear on the roof rack or the tent on the camper shell. Could be fatigue from so many miles rattling down dirt roads. I also think that washboard and rocky dirt is harder on the set up than wheeling. The truck flexes a lot wheeling harder but I really think the relentless dirt road adventures are worse for the shell with weight on it. Seems to me that say 10 miles of slow as wheeling on TOTW or other similar trails is not as hard on the truck as a weekend trip with 345 miles of dirt in AZ and UT.

The truck bed doesn’t seem to be separating (maybe a 1/3” difference between bottom of tail gate and the top), but has cracks in the sheet metal and the corners of the bed are starting to squish the taillights. The weight of the tent on the shell forces it’s sides apart and I can’t close/latch it. Quick solution was to pull the sides together with a ratchet strap between the two latches.

Chalk it up to a heavy tent I guess.

I’m quoting my old post about the cracks and stuff for pics ⬇️

Which rack are you gonna get? One like the BAMF that ties into the frame via four of the bed bolts would be ideal.

Leitner. I like the weight and accessory options. And it ties to the frame in the back.

Awesome to know. I kinda feel like the only use for the 5 foot is off the back of the tailgate. I'll for sure being going with the 6.5. Thanks

    Yeah.
NP, I was sweating the decision until I got it on and set it up. I think it's perfect, although depending on your setup you may have to do some engineering to get it mounted like you want it.

You could get both and set up the 5 foot off the back, lol. My nephew-in-law is buds with the guy that started ROAM. Maybe I need to work on commission.

So long my RTT brethren, I bid you adieu. Airbnb these past few wheeling trips has spoiled me.

    A bunch of junk

What I did was buy a full height rack to be able to mount it appropriately

Having a similar problem, but I have a rack that’s not attached to the frame. It’s just attached to the bed rails.

That’s why I just ordered a bed rack that attaches to the bed bolts too. We will see how it holds up to the abuse. It shows up Tuesday, I’ve got another Utah off-road trip Thursday. Perfect opportunity to put in 50-100 miles of dirt w the new rack and the tent.

Anxious to hear your review. I just got back from the Swell today. Did an awesome trail, and great views. One of my favorite places on earth.

Definitely put some stress on bed.

    Yeah.
Nice looking truck! I lived in Port Allegany as a young kid. We lived on Grace Ave., the house at the NW corner of Grace and Volney. We were only there for a year or so, but good memories.

    Yeah.
LOL, you made me do the math, dammit. That would be about 50 years ago. I was in kindergarten, which was in an old converted fire house at the time, and I walked to school by myself, lol. I also used to wander down Volney to a house that had a pond in the back and freak my mom out looking for me, looks like it's on Catlin and Ann and the pond is still there. I was a middle child, so I was invisible mostly. Also, there was a Tastee-Freez on Main at the time. My dad was a chemical engineer at the glass factory.

Yes the pond is indeed still there. I live on Chestnut just one street down from Catlin. The tasty freez is also still there but is a sit down joint now. The glass factory is also still in operation. I work there in the maintainance dept.
