First trip with the James Baroud and really digging it. Had a CVT St. Helens, but after 6 months and numerous cracks appearing in the shell we made the switch to the fiberglass Baroud. Have to say I was very happy with how CVT supported my local dealer, but just didn’t want to go with chinese plastic shell this time around.

    Yeah.
That's really cool. I think when we lived there we called it "Baker's Pond" because the Bakers live there, Mrs. Baker would bring out old bread to feed the fish. And we called the mountain to the east Mount Baldy, not sure if that is a real name. We'd go sledding on the hill there. There was a really old lady that lived across the street that had to go to a home, so she sold her piano to my mom for $50. She still has it, it's a beautiful upright.

I kind of remember the direction I took to walk to school, but I can't find the old firehouse on the aerial views. The building still had the brass fire pole, although it was fenced off so we didn't fall through the hole, lol. It was basically directly south of our old house, as I remember cutting through yards to get there.

Looks like a great place to live, small town living!

I have a question for the braintrust. I have a camp king rtt. It has 2 1x1 square rails running down the middle of the bottom. I am thinking about cutting a 2 in notch in them so the tent fits really clean on my rack. Do folks think that will impact the structural integrity of the tent.

    Thanks

Yes, those rails are a pretty significant part of the tents structure. Might not be too bad if you have a platform rack, definitely wouldn't do it on a pair of crossbars.

Pulled the camper shell and put on a Leitner rack.

    This.

Turns out that the camper shell with the tent (CVT Mt Hood) was crushing the back of the bed, thus allowing the camper shell to bulge a little and make it impossible to latch both sides.

The TC bed stiffener did it’s job keeping the bed from separating (driver side is fine, passenger has a bit of separation). But did not stop the bed sides from getting crushed a bit above the tail lights. Cracks in the sheet metal wrapped above the tail lights and a few other places from the weight at the far end of the bed sides.

Leitner rack is super solid and bolts to the bed. I’m pretty psyched about it.

    Not much stock left.
Do you mind taking a pic from the end of the bed looking toward the cab with the tailgate down? I’m curious how much space is taken by bolting the rack to the frame. I have a similar issue as you described above.

Yeah that is a good point. It is sitting on top of a KB voodoo modular rack with the 2 3 inch wide bars running north south. That should support the bottom and give me the bit of clearance I need to fit into my garage.

What's everyone doing to increase the mattress comfort in their hardshells like the CVT Mt. Hood and the like? I tried adding a 2" piece of foam mattress topper, but the top wouldn't close. There's no good Exped option for the 47" width of my tent.

We threw a cheapo egg crate topper on. Makes it a bit more comfy.

Ok that's probably like 1" thick? Fits into a hard shell?

Yeah it’s about an inch. Fits in the tent with the bedding. I have the two channel CVT mt hood.

Good to know. I've got the same tent. I wanted the 2" topper work because after I cut it and put it up there it was markedly more comfortable. But it wasn't close to being able to be closed, and that was without any bedding up there.

I just need a 90degree to mount it to a kb voodoo rack. The mounting rails on the camp king are on the far outside edge of the tent

    Hi All,

I'm sure this question has been asked and answered a dozen times but I'm having a hard time finding the answer.

My truck is my daily commuter (highway) and I'm wanting to purchase an RTT. Preferably one that will sit even with the cab/roof over the bed (Short bed). I'd also love a hardshell. Is that possible? If so, what set up should I be looking at/for?

    Thanks in advance :D

Anybody install a live rearview mirror since the RTT typically obstructs your view?

iKamper (or something like it) and KB VooDoo Hi-Rise Bars is what I run (Billie Bars are good too). It seems to have actually helped the mileage slightly and I can run thru automatic car washes.
