I haven't tried one, but those things draw a lot of power. I have a Jackery 500, and it can supposedly run a 100W electric blanket for almost 4 hours. A low-wattage heater like that, set on low, is 375W. You'd get maybe an hour run time on it. The biggest Jackery they sell would likely give you a little over 4 hours.

@infantry317 @TenBeers @dmurph1996 @TacoTyusday Thanks for the feedback, gents. Maybe, I’ll try borrowing a buddy’s Buddy Heater first to see how I like it. I definitely need to figure out the power capacity needed if going the electric heater route. These space heaters draw a lot of juice apparently. I mostly do dispersed camping or go to campgrounds w/o power hookups. Can’t always rely on the weather to provide enough sun to recharge a portable battery.

you can also check out Mav on youtube. He sleeps in the bed of his truck with a cap but does weird things to stay warm while camping. He's used like 30 of those little tea candles, electric blankets, etc. Think he finally settled on a diesel heater, but some of his older vids may give you some ideas

I tried the heated blanket route and plugged it into a portable battery but it only lasted 1 of 2 nights. The cold isn't good for those guys.

Right on. I appreciate the feedback. Pretty much ruling out the e-blanket option for winter camping or in general. Lol

Thanks, man. I haven’t heard of that channel. I’ll go check out his heater vids.

Definitely give it a test. Also, layers are your friend. When I'm camping in that kind of cold, I've got on some long johns under jeans or heavy sweatpants, thick hiking socks, upper body will have a t shirt, light pullover, thick hoodie, beanie, and gloves. When I'm sleeping in those temps, the only things that come off usually are the hoodie and beanie. If I'm sleeping in my 0 degree sleeping bag, I can usually just wear the undermost layer of each and still wake up sweating lol.

    None yet

Something I want to try sometime if I'm solo, is a Mr. Buddy inside a small wire dog kennel (to keep it upright and away from bedding) in the RTT. I know I'll need a fair amount of vantilation due to propane's by-product being water.

As others have mentioned, you only need to run it for about 10-15 minutes. I close everything up and run mine for about 5 minutes or so, it gets plenty toasty and stays warm for a while. If you wake up cold, run it for another 5.

A buddy built a box with one of those diesel heaters, those are really cool but need a way of piping the air into the tent (he's got a small trailer).

I have no idea what I'm looking at.

Are those like springs in place of a mattress?

Could be wrong, but I believe they are moisture barriers between the floor and mattress. Sort of like spacers to elevate the mattress off the floor?

I reached out to the Instagram account I saw them on and am waiting a response.

Hm Interesting. Never seen one like that, i had one that was a honeycomb rubber that's p standard with most tents. I assume you're looking for something more effective if you came across that picture lol

They're usually called "anti-condensation mats" or something along those lines. This is the one I had in my old rooftop tent.

Idk if my methods helped as I never saw any mildew, maybe I just got lucky. But if i was cold camping and there would be a lot of condensation in the tent upon packing it in, I would first try to wipe it down as much as possible before closing, and then leave it open for most of the day or a couple days upon returning to let it air out. Never had an issue in about 3 years of ownership.
