I guess I can officially join this thread now! Bought @Jeffvt0508 never slept in ikamper mini 3.0. My wife can’t stand it on top of our GX that she uses as her daily, so I will be looking into a trailer setup.

What's up all - glad I found this RTT thread as I haven't found really solid solutions for my specific setup after lots of browsing.

I'm looking to add an awning to my setup but haven't found a good way to make it work. I currently have an UpTop Overland mid-height Truss bed rack w/ Roofnest Condor Overland RTT. Not really in the budget to swap these out as they're both relatively new.

If I mount an awning direct to the bed rack armor, it'll be really low to the ground. I've found awning mounts that raise up & offset to make it higher off the ground + clear the tent when opened, but they're made specific to other bed racks & not my UpTop.

I have the tent centered on the rack right now, but have room to shift it further over to make more room for brackets to mount (see pics below). Currently about 7" clearance needed when open but could cut that down to probably 4".

The RCI Bed Rack Awning mounts look promising, might require drilling if the holes don't line up with my rack. I don't have any serious metalworking tools or knowledge but might try piecing something together with pre fabbed steel meant for other uses.

UpTop also has the 'straight up side mounts' but based on the product image I can't tell how that would actually work mounted & with an awning on it

thanks for any help / experience!

you could shift it to the passenger side a lot of bit and add these

    Yeah.
My tent rack is a little taller but still too short for an awning. I mounted mine on a roof rack next where the tent overhangs, so I have somewhat of an extended shelter using the tent overhang.

It looks like mounting an awning to a roof rack would be your best bet. Don't really see how it could mount without some custom brackets

to go off this, you could get a batwing so it would cover the area adjacent to your bed and cab

Yeah I was thinking this too - Batwing is what I'm eyeing specifically the Rhino Rack Batwing Compact Awning. Since it's 80" when stowed it would either hang way off the back of the bed anyway or need to be mounted higher up and extend over the cab also.

Thinking if i shift the tent over to the passenger side a lot a bit like @mrtonyd said then it might be able to extend back from the cab roof to the back of the truck.

thanks for the thoughts all - going to try to track down pictures of the UpTop mounts designed for my rack also to see if that might work - thanks mrtonyd

Hoping ya'll can help me out.
I'm hoping someone with a Thule rack can help me. I found this one on Marketplace but the seller doesnt have many details on it. Does anyone own one like this and have their ikamper/RTT mounted to it?

Looking at getting it for my husbands F150. I have BillieBars on my Taco for the tent. But want options!

    Thank you!!

I got similar ones for my wife’s Subaru and had no issue mounting a Roofnest Condor overland RTT on them. Looks like those are the Thule XSporter Pro which lists load capacity at 450lbs. Should be enough for an RTT & a couple of people. The truck bed capacity rating (static and dynamic) are the numbers to confirm, for the Subaru we had to check the factory roof bars running front to back & it was very close to dynamic capacity but never had issues.

Doesn’t ikampers have some proprietary mount rail system?

Yes but there are several aftermarket mounting brackets you can buy to make different racks work. I believe for the thule, the 2.0 ikamper brackets will work.

    Interesting reply from iKamper....

"Thanks for reaching out! So I do not think the Thule Xsporter will not work because you need to have a bed rack that is drilled to the actual truck... If there is a way to drill it then it would work no problem"
