That’s the way I mounted 3 tents. No problems at all.

ya they are great! i sooorta have a set for thule bars from my camping trailer buuut i tried cutting them to work with my new bed rack and wellll it didnt work out lmao

 

how it started

somewhere in the middle Then switch back to a taco
Sold the rack because we couldn’t use annex, so bought a cap (and a few thousand $$ later) now can’t wait to get the tent up on top. Built a little wheelie stand for storage. And have been stock piling knickknacks and accessories for cap and camping.

 

when i had my clamshell RTT, I had a buddy who worked in a machine shop build me 4 of these for a small fee. little bit of plasti dip and they were sturdy

 

Ironman 4x4 has a solution, I tried finding a link but didn’t have luck. Large metal bracket with rubber insert to prevent vibration and marring. If your rack bars are more oval or large, this might be a good option

Got the extrusion brackets and hardware in. Looks like they will work perfectly.

 

I know tech is ever changing, and there's always something more cool or better, but are LED fairy lights and a portable USB power bank still the go-to solution for lights in your RTT? I had a single LED strip hooked to a 9v battery in my old RTT and it was plenty sufficient, but just wondering what all solutions are out there these days.

 

I have a couple of these. I drive around with them on my dash and it charges them up. I hang one in my tent and one somewhere around my camp site.

I have a couple of those as well. Been using them for outside camp lighting for a few years now and they've finally developed some holes so they won't inflate anymore. Definitely nice to have around - I just keep them in the camper shell window of my truck and always have them mostly charged for every trip. I'll probably snag a cheap set of 5-6$ fairy lights for in the RTT; mainly just wondering what else is out there. I'm not a huge fan of wire and fabric moving parts, but its definitely probably the cheapest and easiest solution.

 

I have these and they are great, but a little too long for the inside of my tent. I got my aunt the shorter ones as a gift and think those would be perfect.

 

I have 3-4 Luci Solar String Lights too but mine might be an older model? We throw them on the truck dash as we drive to the site so they can charge and then string them up in the tent and around the site. You can chain link them too which is kinda nice since the sun is always moving and you don't need to reposition them to charge. I'd say, with a full charge, id get a weekend use out of them easily.

Just got back from ~4k mile road trip.. Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, then back to Oregon.. Was cold!!! Great solo trip down, Picked up a copilot for the trip home.. Ice on the RTT in Idaho the first night at a hot spring, southern Utah at elevation was cold, then a few nights in AZ at my buddies place, norther AZ south of Kingman found a really cool spot and Humphrey found and chased an Elk? lol Then up in Mid Nevada at ~6000 feet the dog water dish froze over night, was 24 degrees.. No heaters, just a down comforter and a zero degree bag and Humphy..

 

Are you liking the 23Zero Walkabout? Going to be ordering a 72" pretty soon, waiting on a sale if I can holdout.

 

I've had it a few years, used on a trip to Tuk and Alaska for 6 weeks straight with my kid! I've not had any issues with mine, I like the LST thing its so dark in it when its 24 hours of daylight.. If anything ever goes wrong I will get a hard shell next.. I did just replace the bag now that I think of it, the zippers stopped working to close it up last May when I was in AZ.. But I would buy again!

 

Anyone have anything negative to say about GO FSR Aspen Lite?

 

I’ve only used mine twice but I love it so far. Pretty lightweight, super easy to set up, take down, and didn’t affect fuel economy on my truck at all. Only complaint I have right now is it does build up quite a bit of condensation inside when the outside temps get cold. With that said I’m excited to get out and use it more this summer!
