The driver was just about to leave when I got home from the gym. I'm gonna eat some food, then try to get it mounted up. The temps are supposed to dip below 0° tonight so I think it's only purpose will be to add weight over the rear wheels for the moment.

For any of you that are in Moab right now, I'm headed down tomorrow. I'll be in my Cruiser instead of the Tacoma. The Cruiser needs a shakedown run and Moab is the place for it.

Kukenam Sky in olive green. I haven't got to open it up yet.

    Nice choice.
I am seriously considering a Kukenam myself. If/when u get a chance, I would appreciate seeing a pic from the rear with the tent closed up as it is. I would curious to see how much space there is between the bedrails and the tent.

I doubt you could fit 3 in a hardshell rtt comfortably, for comfort I would have 2 sleep up top and one down in an annex. Only one I would sleep 3 in comfortably would be the biggest CVT or Tepui, especially if its raining or something.

I am not sure on set up time of hard shell RTT's but with the other RTT I found set up time to be minimally faster than friends with ground tents. In some instances, the ground tent beat me to a full set up.

One thing I truly hated about the RTT is that it was attached to the truck. You seem to be leaving all things that you could detach the truck from and go. If you are one of the guys that likes to find camp and then go play, it gets annoying quick.

Not sure how having to buy a new ground tent is a set back when you are looking at buying a new hardshell RTT which is probably at least 3x the price of a nice ground tent.

I am not trying to talk you out of the set up, just bringing up some points that may be of interest.

That is the one thing about rtt's I don't like, is once you set up you are there. Trailers are nice for longer outings but on trails and if you need to back up it can be a big PITA, BoxRocket has one so he has personal experience with one, maybe im wrong.

Makes sense . I have learned the hard way that not sucking it up and spending the money the first time can come back and bite you in the butt. I believe CVT still has hard shell tents but I am not possitive. Their group buy would probably be a good way to get one at a reasonable price tag.

It drove me nuts haha. I wanted a trailer but that's another couple grand on a tent that already cost a lot. I never even thought off how hard it would be to back one in on a tight trail. I am sure you'd get used to it but I have trouble just getting my reg cab turned around sometimes .

I really enjoyed the RTT on truck meets but that was because they are set up as stop and go trips. It also helps that most of the Wyo crew has them and chose spots that worked well for them. Anytime I went fishing I would be kicking myself in the rear as I walked a mile or so up the road from my camp site to get to the water. Or my friends would roll their eyes as I told them I needed a flat spot I could park my truck.

Last summer I was on a meet and luckily it was only me and a 4runner (long story, group was on another trail) and we took a wrong turn, on one side was a 75ft drop to a river, on the other was a very steep slope. I turned around and for us to pass out trucks were within a few inches of each other with mirrors folded in, if he would have slid down a little (he was on the up hill side) and hit me I would have gone off the edge  With a trailer that would have been an impossible turn around.

I am incredibly good with backing up trailers, its just on a skinny trail with rocks and a cliff on one side (like most trails around me) it would be to difficult, plus you run a big risk of flipping the trailer too.
