Yeah, which is why I said to reinforce it some how. If I wanted it as low as possible that's what I would do.

What about the side that opens up? It only has the ladder and the hingesto hold it up.

But I do agree you should beef-up the anchor points.

Thought about that too but I don't know what is available in the tent to screw/bolt into. I guess the rails are screwed into the metal reinforcements inside the tent base and maybe it would be possible to bolt the brackets directly to those.

that's what i was thinking too. the tent has reinforcements running in the 8' direct i know that but i don't know what supports it the other way and maybe the rails are helping to support the overall tent structure

or to run some flat stock steel bars under there - lesser profile than the existing rails...
highly evolved campers sleep up in the air, silly ground dweller

Could you leave the stock bars where they are, then drill holes to directly mount to the tent floor with those brackets? That way they are still there to provide a bit of structure and then the brackets will add future support?

The inch the bars provide make it easier to unzip the cover. Without them it is actually a lot more difficult to open it. I tried... Wasn't worth the headache.

Has anyone looked at or installed a foxwing awning?

    Sounds like my wife.

I have been thinking about getting an awning and this popped up. The awning seems like it would be almost as easy as the basic awning but the walls would be difficult.

Interesting, never thought of that. Pro's and Con's of everything. Id rather have a near flush mount and struggle with that I think. Aesthetically, it would look a lot better I think.

Screw it Lisa, build a trailer

The foxwing looks great. I have a CVT awning off the back of my truck. But I enjoy having large fires when camping and don't want to be burning holes in it. So I put a blue tarp off the side of my truck that ties into the awning off the back. Then I can still have the fire reasonably close to the tarp so I can stay dry and not worry about burning a $20 tarp. Works great but isn't nearly as fast as putting up the awning, especially alone.

I liked the rack setup on the red Runner on t4r. You could take the rails off the tent and be perfectly fine. Plus get the lower profile. If you used three low profile rails and rotated the tent's mounting holes, that'd work (for Tepui, at least, you can do this).

I might slot the ends of three pieces of square tube and install those tabs. Either weld or bolt them together. Some very cool ideas in that thread too. :D
