Do wheeler's 1.5" progressive 3 leaf add a leaf. It'll handle the weight better. You can leave your OEM overload spring in to make it 2" if needed. It's what I have and I have a larger tent, with a smaller rack that should equal out to about the same weight. Honestly, I can't tell having the tent on lowers the rear at all, and I don't have the overload spring in. If you go 2" in the back it'll sit ass high with the 5100s set at 1.75.

 

I ended up going Dakar springs after the AllPro bed rack and my tepui. By themselves, it wasn't bad. But the extra ~200 pounds in addition to a loaded bed for camping made for a miserable ride.

 

Honestly I would go for a dakar spring pack and remove one of the leafs if you don't want the full lift they provide (can't remember which one you remove), talk to Schmellmopwho, he and I both had 3 leaf AAL's in the rear and an rtt will make them go bad pretty quick along with camping gear.

You will ware out the AAL its just a matter of time, with a dakar pack the leafs will never sag or go flat. In the long run it'll save you money.

 

Eh, he said it's his daily driver and doesn't need it to crawl so unless his rack, tent and camping gear stay in his truck everyday, the dakars are overkill. Mine rides awesome when it's loaded, when it's just the bars and rtt I can't even tell it's on there.

 

When I was researching my lift, I read a lot that the dakar pack is really stiff when not loaded, I usually have an empty bed. Seems like his needs are similiar to mine so I posted my recommendation. It's worked out great for me, but like y'all said it might not hold up as long as the dakar springs. I plan on leaving the tent on for about 6 months of the year. I never even considered a rtt when I did my lift, now out of the blue I have one. Funny how things change.

 

Mine is too and i don't rock crawl, it's just that he'll save money over time and not need to replace dakars, an AAL is just a bandaid for the crappy springs. But if your going to do an AAL do a 3 leaf progressive.

The Dakars at first are stiff but after a few thousand miles they soften up

 

I'm a first Gen but I'll throw my $.02 in... I have dakars, they rode great with the rack and tent. Threw the AAL in, rode even better. Took the rack and tent off around Christmas and its been hell ever since. Lol. Extremely bouncy with no weight. But that's with the Dakars and AAL. When it was just dakars with no AAL, no rack and no tent it rode great.

 

I'm driving from South Carolina to Texas starting tomorrow with my RTT on the truck (it always is). I'll probably break the trip into 2 days traveling along I40. Anyone have any recommendations on where I should spend the night?

Has anyone traveled criss country with their RTT? Did you find campgrounds or parks? Or just pop it open at truck stops and rest areas?

 

X2. I haven't used my dakars without the aal, but I just recently took everything out of my bed to clean back there and haul some furniture. Holy crap I forgot how rough it is haha. I definitely need some weight back there for a decent ride.

 

I'm planning a trip from KY to CO in September and was wondering if a rtt would attract too much attention in a parking lot. It would scare the shit out of me if I woke up to people around my truck.

 

I can't wait to put the tent back on and smooth out the ride. When hauling 1100 lbs of Lime and fertilizer it felt amazing. It's so bouncy and rough with nothing.

 

Good to know. Thanks. I live in Wal-Mart country so if i pitched my tent in hte local parking lot there'd be 50 idiots around my truck in no time. I don't think Wal-Mart is as popular in other parts of the country. Around here, there's not much nite life so everyone heads to WallyWorld. It's quite sad.

 

I've crashed in their lots numerous times. Never had an issue. I prefer the crackerbarrel to walmart - they're less conspicuous & usually less crowded late in the evening.
Plus I love biscuits & gravy for breakfast.

 

I knew Wal-Mart and Target allowed it, but I didn't know about Cracker Barrel so thanks for the heads up on that. I'd feel pretty good about sleeping there.

 

I just try to plan trips around public land. Not crowded, free and the freaks of walmart aren't there.

 

Check out reserve America to see what camp grounds/state parks are along your rout. That's what I used and it worked out very well.

I have to go back to work for the next two weeks. Hopefully when i get back the weather is good and i can really give it a good test drive to Yosemite or something close.

 

CVT changed the color of their logo on the travel covers, didn't know that. Looks good though!
