so i am in the market for an RTT..

i have a few questions for you guys.

i am curious on how it is supported on the roof of our trucks. just simply throw and secure on any kind of roof basket/rails?

is there a length the roof basket/rails need to be?

hows the road noise on them?

i see some of them have extensions that cantilever out to the side of the truck with a ladder..is the ladder the only thing that supports this cantilever?

this extension, do you like the stability?

    ...

is that airlander the same kind of setup/installation methods?

ive seen tepui, cvt, and arb.. what do you guys recommend?

    1) There are 2 rails on the underside with sliding tracks that secure it to the cross bars. Both Yakima/Thule cross bars are fine, just not the OEM rack.

    2) Not neccisarily a length requirement, the cab of your truck or any bed rack will work perfectly.

    3) No road noise at all with mine

    4) The ones that may need extensions are the CVT ladders, the Tepui ladders are telescopic to just over 8ft (8'6" I think) so you don't need an extension with theirs. And yes the ladder is the only thing that supports that side of the tent.

    5) Mine feels very stable from my experiences, doesn't feel like anything is going to break or fall over.

    6) Not sure

    7) Both are good but I'd recommend Tepui because I have talked to a few people now that have CVT's and have seen Tepui's and liked those better, mainly a bunch of small things, but mostly Tepui's anti-condensation mat is much better.

    ^^ thanks Northwesttaco,

You mentioned thule/yakima rails, could I use a basket?

What secures it to the rails? some sort of clamps?

Do you not feel the rails/basket thru the bottom of the tent when you sleep on it?

So if the ladder supports one end, what supports the other? is it a slide out type of mechanism?

I wouldn't use a basket since it won't support the weight well enough. Imagine that square aluminum tubing is your cross bar, 2 of those rails run down under the base of the tent, so you have at least 4 of those "clamps" (not sure what to call them, 2 forward and 2 back)

    20131029_210451.jpg

You don't feel the bottom at all because they have a good base to them, mine is Tepui Ruggedized version so i have diamond plate. Plus they come with a 2.5" thick foam mattress (very comfortable) and the option of getting the anti condensation mat to seperate you half inch from the base (highly recommend).

The other end of the ladder is mounted to the base of the tent like this

Just ordered a Kukenam Sky. Anyone know if it is possible to have Tepui send a black cover instead of a grey one?

Cool. I ordered through a local dealer here. I called and asked him if he could look into the black cover instead of gray. Wouldn't want to have a color clash with my truck!

Your box fits in your bed nicer than mine. I don't know how I am supposed to sleep on it if it hangs out then end.

Hey guys so I want the anti condensation mat but it's sold out right now, was wondering if I should just get one of those rubber restaurant mats and it would probably work exactly the same right?

You could use that but it would be heavier for sure.
