Great camping setup! What lift/tire setup are you running, 285's with 2.5"? My next purchase is roof rack/rtt!

Its one of the few DVD's i bought full price haha.

Im always amazed watching/reading about the pioneers. I more was into ski mountaineering and seeing the gear Glen plake, Andrew McLean, Shane McConkey, Doug Coombs, ect were using is amazing. They literally were inventing the gear i use today. I have pretty much every ski movie from the 90's till now.

Ill have to check that book out. Into Thin Air is a pretty interesting read too. Sort of bring the "commercialization" of climbing into view.

Had a great set-up for Telluride Bluegrass Festival for the past 7 days!

I successfully packed my tent with three pillows, a sleeping bag, a comforter, a sheet, and 3 fleece blankets in it. Not sure what all the trouble is...

Someone else had a HUGE tipi!

So far so good, this thing rocks. Took it on 2500 mile road trip through the Oregon coast and back home to LA. Roughly two weeks of camping with the RTT

13 hours of rain, stayed warm and dry.

Yep, I can get you some more pics tonight when I get home, but as far as things you need... (4-6) 2x4s depending on if you need to reinforce your rafters too, winch from wherever this is from HF and works great, (1) 2"x10"x8' cut in half, some 1.75" square steel tube (correct size for the winch mounts), a shackle, some T shape steel (I had two pieces of scrap angle that I welded together to make a T), lots of lag bolts, assorted screws, and four straps

I think it's relatively straightforward what I did but I'll give a little abridged version anyway to help anyone who may have questions. So to start I cut the 2x10 in half to have two 4' sections. These then get attached to the insides of the trusses and the purpose of using a 2x10 is to mount the winch higher up so it sits above the bottom of the trusses and out of your way. Then secure the 1.75" square tube to the top of the 2x10s so you can mount the winch up there with it's brackets. I added some 2x4 braces to my truss chords because they were spliced and I'm overly cautious...probably would have been fine but meh, didn't hurt and only took a few minutes. So from here, attached the winch to the steel, plug it in (probably have an extra outlet where your garage door opener is ) and you have a functioning pulley system!

Next is building that top plate to go over the RTT... It's pretty easy to see what I did there with the shackle and iron then bolted to the 2x4s. Have these 2x4s vertically for two reasons, added strength when attached to the tent AND to frame that steel above the ladder so it doesn't hit at all. In the first pic I have the straps attached directly to the rack but in the second I added 2x4s underneath and strapped those to the top plate so the rack was off and out of the way. Eventually when I stop being lazy I'm going to redesign this top plate thing so that it's all steel AND there will be no more straps, just some steel coming down off the corners of the pieces that kick out and then from the bottoms of those pieces that come down will be four more pieces, probably bolted on, that swivel so when you lower the top plate to either put the tent on or take it off all you do is swivel those four pieces either underneath or out from under the tent. No more straps and no more bottom 2x4s :).

Sorry, guess this turned into a novel but hope it helps!

Thanks! Running the OME Dakars and 885s with 285s and 1.25 spacers (all in my build page...or lack thereof haha). Works great and couldn't be happier with the setup. You'll be so happy once you have the RTT, love CVT and the folks over there. No experience with Tepui tents but Box Rocket on here is great too if you go that route.

That's are Thule aeroblades (if you're asking about the ones on the roof)...just for my ski racks, wouldn't put an RTT on em. Might hold but don't think they're rated for that much weight, especially not while in the tent. I designed and welded my own bed rack out of 11 gauge...maybe overkill but works awesome and I can put other stuff on it if I want down the road too :D

Side note - sorry for all the separate thread replies this morning! I should figure out how to reply to many in one post...

click "multi quote" instead of "quote", click it on all the quotes you want. Then at the bottom where you type, click "insert quotes". This will allow you to insert all quotes and reply to them individually.

    Thanks by the way.

One note on using these in the summer time. They will reflect the sunlight and delay the tent heating up in the day time, but ventilation is still key. It's a good idea to open them up to allow airflow if you can. Leaving them closed may not get you the effect you want with the heat. But if you can open the doorway to allow airflow combined with the reflectiveness of the material it can be a good combination.

Any hints on what the new product will be? Is this something that will offer a alternative option to the cover?

    Hello all,
I am new to this thread and I am planning a trip to South Western, UTAH this weekend near Zion National Park and was looking for a great place to set up my RTT and camp for the weekend. The more secluded the better. Please help!!!

Check out Cathedral Valley in Capitol Reef NP if you make it up that way. Awesome 60 mile dirt/gravel road loop with a small river crossing.

I can't wait to explore Utah!!! It's been on the bucket list for quite some time and going to check it out once the weather starts to cool off.

Finally have some time to open the box and starting to set up the Racor system. Hopefully, will have everything mount by this weekend. The only issue I have is that the tent will be mounted on my Thule Xsporter bar and the flat bar and the screws are too short. May need to make a trip to HD to the the screw and a new flat bar.
