No extension is needed with the Tepui ladder. I have my tent mount above 6' high when it's open on my trailer and the ladder has plenty of length. It would work fine on the roof of a lifted truck or topper.

 

Pretty sure josh (Jlink) didn't need the extension that he bought

I had mine on my roof for a short period and it was long enough

 

Yeah my tepui ladder can go much higher than I need it to, on my lifted 4 runner. Which is nice if I ever get a different vehicle or change how it's on mine.

 

I think it's smart that CVT has the telescoping ladder now too. Seems overall better, no?

 

I thought that's what Alex (sytfu510) said last time we were out, but I think it was more of a just in case thing. Here is a pic I found the last time we went out and it looks like he didn't need it this time

 

Thanks for the help and the quick answers guys. I'll continue to do my research and try to make as informed a decision as I can but it appears that either would be a good choice.

CVT had it for a while…. I sorta thought they went from the ladder now to telescoping and then back because it was having problems. Don't take my word on that though

 

I need to get new catch-pins for my ladder... Some tree branch attacked mine

 

Where are you located? Maybe shipping price may sway your decision?

I'm on the east coast and figure shipping on either is going to be in the $150-200 range so probably not a factor but I'll look into it, thanks.

I wasn't a big fan of the telescoping ladder. If your in a groomed campground, was not an issue but if you are in a primitive site and are dealing with an uneven surface where one leg touches and the other doesn't, the ladder struggled to get some of the wrungs to lock in place.

I have since switched back to the original type. Much better IMO.

Rack, Dually's, and last of my wiring parts are out for delivery. Picked up some Herculiner from Lowes yesterday and should have the rack welded up, bed lined, and mounted on the truck by Sunday evening. Then I figure a week's worth of wiring stands between me and mounting the tent.

I agree with you. We also found a new telescoping ladder that came with our Hardshells and the release is on the front of the steps verses underneath. The biggest problem we found was the pins on telescoping ladders are not deep enough when they lock and wore really quick. We have had the new telescoping ones on the market over a year with no problems so far.

 

What's the difference in the ladders? I have the plain ladder.
