This is exactly what I was going to do with my RTT!! Can you please give me more details about the rack that you put on top of the trailer? Do you know what the max weight limit is if I wanted to use a track system from Yakima? I don't have access to a custom fabricator and so am stuck with stock racks. Thanks!

Okay I have posted this in other threads and gotten zero response but I figured I would try it here

"I got a question for you guys. I want to build my rig for an expo style capable of being out in the middle of nowhere for up to hopefully weeks at a time. With that said I am goin to have some money to blow after taxes and I am wondering should I go with upgrading my suspension first or throw on a roof top tent and snorkel? Hmmm tough deduction I know. There is a rtt group buy so I was thinking if I can save a couple hundred now that might be the way to go. Hopefully I will be able to do suspension in a couple of months around June so it's not that long of a wait. If his was my only chance to make a big price ticket purchase for the year it would be suspension. I guess I jut wanted to get your guys opinion on it. Thanks oh and penis. Cause I can never have it be completely straight."

I'm leaning towards the rtt first but wondering if anyone had any thoughts or opinions?

If you aren't in a rush to build(which i hope because you don't want to rush building) I'd say go for whatever deals pop up first. I hadn't planned on upgrading suspension till after i had the RTT but a deal popped up and i took that.

It's really up to you really.

I would love to have everything done tomorrow haha but finances only allow so much... I eventually want to have armor and super charger with fj transfer case and a crawl box. So it will be a long time before its anywhere near built in my eyes. I honestly love the look of the rtt, the fact that I won't have to unpack my truck every night to set up camp is awesome and the longer sleeping pad allows me to sleep without being in the fetile position all night.

I don't think scrambling to get stuff on is a good idea, you don't get the time needed to effectively research all components of a particular mod(suspension, tire, performance, ect) and you end up cutting corners in the process. I didn't want to do the whole 5100>OME/Coilover>Upgrade again and again and lose money so i researched as much as i could about my current and future needs and made one purchase one time. Coilovers(in this example) was the best choice for me because

    1.The deal i got
2.The research i had on them before the deal popped up
3.Adjustibility for future changes in my build as they arose.

Im sure OME would have been just as good but for the price, i couldn't turn down the coil overs.

Thats just an example of course.

I got mine with my tent, didn't expect to get an annex but from what i've seen from it, it'd be nice if you were chilling for more than 2 days and the weather was expected to be bad.

One thing you may have to factor in is the RTT and how you're going to mount it. For example, if you get a bed rack and RTT, you may want decent springs that will be able to support it (plus gear that you may store in the bed). So in that case, suspension is important

Yea, I had the rack built out of 2"x2" sq. tube. Its welded to the frame of the trailer, because the manufacture said the trailer roof could only support around 110# if you used their ladder rack. That wouldn't work because my RTT weight is about 165# (if I remember correctly). The rack also has built in stabilizers, that I can adjust for the terriane. I have had about 700# on the rack with no problems. I would recommend building the rack from the frame, not just trying to use the roof, because I started that way and glad I switched. If you can't find a fabricator, then, at lease bolt some sq. tube on the sides of the trailer to support the stock rack, and not the roof of the trailer. I left about 3/4" between the roof and rack. I hope this helps you.

As someone new to RTTs, I'm interested in the current group buys, but unsure what is the best choice. If you were to pick the best RTT, price notwithstanding, what would you pick?

I'm hoping to get one on sale, but quality/features > price for me.

We have two kids (5 and 7), so we'd either need the largest tent (wish the largest tents like the CVT expanded to 9' wide insteading of going from 6' to 7' deep) or possibly two 2+ man tents.

If price isn't an issue then I'd look at brands in this order..

    1: Eezi-Awn
    2: ARB
    3: Tepui
    4: CVT
    5: Mombasa
    6: Camping Labs

I have a Tepui Autana and like it. I have 4 kids and my wife and I sleep in the tent and the 4 kids sleep in the annex.

If you looking at the Group Buys, the CVT Mt McKinley and the Tepui Gran Sabana are comperable and the biggest ones of those brands. You should able to sleep 4 in the tent snugly, or sleep 2-3 in the tent and 1-2 in the included annex.

The Tepui Kukenam XL will fit 4 as well.

If the price of the Eezi-Awn doesn't scare you and you want a large tent, look at the XKLUSIV T-Top Family tent from Eezi-Awn. It will sleep 4 adults in the upper level and 3-4 more in the annex if you want.
