It's definitely cheaper. I've found them useful when I'm driving at night and need to see if I'm getting close to rubbing on rocks and shrubs.

I'd like to use them as night lights when I'm inside the tent in case I want to peer out and see what's around the truck.

I would imagine you could. This is where I considered the new sPod with the screen and dimming options, but I couldn't see spending another $800 to dim lights.

I leave mine on year round because I use it year round. Winter camping and wheeling is way too much fun (plus we have a surplus of winter in AK) to justify taking it off. Never had anything happen except it generating revenue for me. They're like magnets for questions, every camp spot we go to, she's the bell of the ball.

YKK zippers and an ip rating would be the bees knees on those. I could see the annex rooms and even floors storing really nicely in there. Man, those are cool.

11 degrees no sleeping bag. Mr. Buddy heater in the annex on medium. We just bring blankets with us anymore, but I have been looking into the biggest sleeping bag I can fit my family of four into to just leave in there full time. Might be a bit much for the Mckinley, we'll see. Cover isn't THAT tight, I just really don't want to have to fight it sine it's so big.

I'm semi OCD which helps, the camp gear is ready to go all the time, my wife and I meal plan during the week, and we are out the door in 30 minutes after I get off work, 5 minutes to drive home - 25 to load and off we go. Also northerners have to focus on getting out and about in the summer winters are long.

I have lived here my whole life so I know what it means to say you camp in AK with no sleeping bag. I have a customer up here who is retired and just really enjoys watching weather patterns, he has had his out in -17 and it was 75 in the tent with the Mr. Buddy going in the annex, temps dropped to -24 and the inside dropped to 72. The canvas on these tents are solid enough to use year round, because they hold heat so well. If we can do it up here, there's no reason you guys can't down there in the lower 48.

I opted for a duel fuel burning gas Coleman, I always have gas in my Jerry can when out and about, it's efficiency is not impacted by altitude or cold like propane and I don't have to worry about buying canisters. It is a little bit less convenient than propane.

Cooking pots I kept to backpacking pots, and I have since augmented the set with a sea to summit collapsible pot, I have A good frying pan, and properly sized utensils.

I've built up a bit of a chuck box out of an action packer.

I run a bulk tank on my heater, so I don't have to mess with the canisters either, but it's nice to have the option since those are readily available at most grocery stores.

Down would be a good idea if you were taking it out when storing the tent, but it has a hard time coming back to insulation fill when compressed for lengthier periods of time, so I think I'm stuck with synthetic.

So I ask this every time someone posts about using a mr buddy. What system are you using for exhaust? If any? Are you at all concerned about CO poisoning? I really want one of those heaters, but I just need to feel a bit more comfortable about the possible carbon monoxide issue.

They have auto shutoffs for CO, I was VERY concerned about it at first, just because it's not like you start to get sick and then realize you might need to turn it down, you just die. I have my whole family in the tent all the time so from the research I did leaving a window open allows plenty of ventilation. That's what we do and I'm still alive. Everyone else is as well, just to clarify.

Synthetic is quite a bit more forgiving than down though, but yeah, that'd be the way to do it right for sure.

For yall with the mr buddy heaters in the annex.. Do you just leave all the windows closed while the heater is running then open when you go to bed? Or what do you do?
