Standby I'll get you pictures of mine.

But for starters. With my tent mounted it's almost exactly flush with the top of my cab.

the bars themselves (tall rentless fab bars) are shorter than the cab. with my tepui ayer (11" tall or something), the ladder makes it just barely taller than the cab. I'll let @catattacksdog post the pic

I highly suggest a Mr. Buddy heater if you will be in the cold. I used mine in ~27 degree nighttime temps last weekend and it works amazing. It really doesnt take long to heat up either. I turned it on like 5-10 minutes before i crawled in and it was nice and toasty in the tent...like enough so that i went down to just pjs and a sweatshirt. Then in the morning just do the same thing...turn it on and relax in the bag for 5-10 minutes

For our tent sizes it works great for warming things up. I wouldnt sleep with it on (and it wouldnt last the night on a small bottle anyways IMO) but its nice for getting in and out of your bag!

I do use a 32 degree bag and a lightweight blanket and it kept me warm when the heater was off

    on another note.......

a semi drunk/hunger over 3:30am trying to use my pulley setup to get the tent on the truck has led me to buying a cheap 120v winch to use instead. Got it all setup and am weight testing it a bit overnight but way easier to use now. Ill post pictures once i make sure it holds weight (it should) and actually works lol

Got the new RTT winch setup more or less dialed in (couple minor things ill add later). Works great though! Not as fancy as @DoorDing but it works!

    Parts list is pretty simple....

Harbor Freight 120v winch (badlands like 2k?...its the only 120v one)
Pack of (4) ratchet straps (1"x14' 1000lb rating)
Wood was a 2x6. Then 4 simple eyebolt into the wood
    (1) pulley to redirect the rope down from in the attic

    And thats it!

Its nice being able ot lower it all the way to the ground. ill be able to take it off and open it up to dry after using it in the rain/snow instead of having to hope fo rnice weather outside.

Easy to handle while it is just one the cable. Can spin it as needed with one hand

And finally in its "resting" place. The two ratchet straps are the weight bearers when stored. The winch is still connected but i back it off a bit so the weight is all on the eyebolt straps. If those failed for some reason...the winch would only let it drop ~2-4 inches.

Overall...im happy! Its way easier to use than my old pulley setup which was just a hassle and slow. Used to take probably 15-20 to get it on/off vs now its more like 5 minutes.

I only saw the Badlands 1500lb for 120v winches. I could have gotten a smaller one and done a 120v to 12v converter but meh. After coupon it was only $110 so i was ok with it. Yous looks like a superwinch or different brand which i saw at Amazon but my local HF didnt carry it.

Thats actually one thing ill be changing up. Adding some padding where the straps contact the RTT. Right now (its hard see) but most of the weight bearing is on the Thule bars instead of right on the RTT frame. But i still have some other ideas i might do....like instead of straps, use a 4x4 or similar and have it on chains from the eyebolts. So lift the RTT then set it "down" on the 4x4's. I also need to make a better setup for centering the wire where it comes through the drywall...but thats an easy thing to do...since if the RTT swings at all the wire is going to chew up the drywall.

Like anything i do this is version 3 and im sure itll be version 4 or 5 in a month or two.

Version 4 i might build a "frame" so the ratchet straps dont wrap all the way around the RTT but instead are more of a sling going to two eyebolts. Then the winch pulls up on the frame which raises the whole thing up to the current wood and then the other straps take over. But we will see.

Version 2 i had the winch set up like you do. But the winch i has has a hook and an eyelet which means theres like 8" of "stuff" hanging down. So i could only lift the rtt ~4" which wasnt nearly enough. So Version 3 lets me raise it up ~12" which is much better!

I've been looking at those things at HF for another project. @DoorDing, I'm pretty sure you use a hoist, while velillen bought an atv winch. Should both serve this purpose just fine, although only the hoist is rated to lift vertically.

Either one is probably fine for the RTT use. I don't think I'd stand under the tent while I was moving it with any of those HF products

Your setup is much cleaner then mine. Think I'll switch out my 2x4 setup and go for the tie-down method.

Getting it off the truck and into the roof of the garage was a great idea tho. Frees up a Lot of space!

Damn you all! I wish I had a garage tall enough for such awesomeness... My neighbors are getting a little tired of me hitting them up for lifting help! Although i pay handsomely in beer for 5 minutes of work...

The 2x4 setup looks like it works just fine! I wouldnt change it up lol

i can barely get the truck with rtt in and out. My garage opening is arched. So i have to sort of scoot the truck to the middle to fit out. Which sucks cause the rtt had to go on the side of the garage (garage door opener and attic access were in the way)

Not worth it when i can still fit going out via centering the truck. Airing down wouldnt help anyways as id need to drop probably 4-6" to fit going straight out thanks to the arch on the garage on the one
