Alright. I just pulled the trigger. I bought the smittybilt Rtt from anything auto. I got 10% by asking through online chat. That's $764 shipped to my door.

I just found out that anything auto has a one year price gaurantee. So if 4 wheel parts does another chrismas sale this year and the tent is $599, like last time, anything auto should refund me the difference.

I will take video and give a good review when I receive the tent.

Didn't give an ETA. Says it should ship out within the next 3 days via FedEx ground.

Having now seen the Smittybuilt tents up close, I can tell you there are definitely differences from the other more major brands that most of you are familiar with. Material weights and quality definitely feel "lighter duty", kinda like a set of 250 thread count bed sheets compared to 600 thread count sheets if that makes sense. Both sheets will cover your bed but you can feel the difference. Several imperfections in seams and stitching quality on the tent I looked at. Mattress didn't seem to be of the same density foam either. Without cutting it open there's no way to tell if the internal frame/base is constructed in the same way or not. Also the one I saw used no-name brand zippers vs high quality YKK zippers. However, I have had others with Smittybuilt tents tell me that theirs has YKK zippers. So maybe they are using a variety of material sources, I'm not sure since I didn't see the ones claiming to have YKK zippers.

Basically there are reasons for the cost being lower on these. That doesn't mean they are bad tents or that no one should buy them. Not everyone has the budget, or puts their tent through a level of use that requires a more expensive option. I'm sure that Smittybuilt tent owners will still enjoy their camping experience. Will the tent last as long as others and be comfortable for as long without issue? Time will tell. If it does, then it makes for a good deal.

Just go into the purchase with open eyes knowing that you may be making a few concessions in terms of quality. Bottom line is still about getting outdoors more often and exploring a little father than you have before.

We have a Cascadia Tent and are in need of a anti-condensation mat. I kept hearing that there was going to be a new one hopefully by the first of the year but haven't seen anything different on their website. Anyone know if the Cascadia that's still on the webpage is better or worse than the Tepui?

If someone is willing to post a photo of their CVT anti-condensation mat, you can compare it to the ones Tepui sells. Here's what the Tepui mat looks like. Lots of good air flow.

It looks as though the CVT one is just triangles punched out vertically. Where as the Tepui has holes horizontally and vertically. if that makes sense. I think the Tepui looks more functional....

One thing I can say is the Tepui mat is tough. No way that thing will tear or fail. Maybe if you burned it (it would likely just melt), but if you do that you've got bigger issues. :)

Does anyone think its worth more than double the cost of the CVT though? It looks more functional but the CVT is 55 vs 115 for the Tepui.

I've never heard all that great of things about the cvt one. Mostly been it sort of works. I haven't heard anyone complain about the tepui one.

But wait some more real world advice that just second hand.

I've never had any condensation problems with my CVT mat. I camp in the Colorado and Wyoming parks and mountains. And that's all I have to say about that.
