Thats me everytime I go to a new bed/sleeping setup pretty much. First time in the RTT each year i sleep poorly. Same when backpacking the first night is poor. But it also happens in motels and the such too lol.

I'm fixing to get a Mt. Shasta tent but I'm stuck trying to decide between the standard and the summit series. This will hopefully be the last tent I buy. Are the upgrades worth the extra cost of the summit series?

It seems like they are because others say that the floor in the other one are not as thick... Plus the material is really thick vs just thick lol...

If I mount my rooftop tent to bed rails in the back of the truck that only stick up a few inches above the bed, will the ladder still work or would it be to close to the ground. I'm envisioning needing a step stool to get into the tent. The CVT is the brand I'm thinking about getting.

    Alright another strike against tepui.
Some old advice is ringing true that I ignored before buying- telescoping ladders are great, but will fail you.
The simple slide rail type can't jam up with sand or use.
Mine sounded crunchy and has some obvious marks where sand is in the joints. Then it decided to just stop halfway collapsed when the tab broke inside the rung. I couldn't fold the thing up, so I couldn't close the tent and drive. One stupid POS Chinese plastic tab held my day up for an hour while I played McGuiver

    eca63c823a3a0078e81490ddb1327e76_629303a56777e7c9689730b341518ea49d6c45c2.jpg

Unfortunately, I thought loosening the outside bolts would let me pull the parts out of the rung without disassembling every other rung. Of course, I started loosening it and the fucking thing seized up and spun inside the retaining slot. I couldn't tighten it back up and now the whole rung was loose so I couldn't ignore it. Had to cut the plastic out till I could get vice grips on. Luckily the nut was useable and it matched the bolt from my gopro mount.

Got home and spent some time fixing buckles.
Damn strap that held the ladder down broke first day I had it.
Velcro straps that close over the cover haven't really held shut since I put the 1/2" foam mat in. They wore out and got frayed in the Sun and I got sick of them popping loose on the highway and flopping the straps around. Never really made sense to me why they cinched shut on the hinge side rather than the side you need to cinch shut. uploadfromtaptalk1458533049900.jpg

Sorry you had some issues. Have you reached out to Tepui to see about any of those things being covered under warranty? Likely all things that could be covered and replaced quickly.

No, I've just been bitching about it here to you haha
Honestly the buckle isn't a huge deal and not something you could ship me in-
Both ends of all buckles were pop riveted in and sewn neatly around the broken buckle. I drilled em out and replaced it all with new webbing and left the ends open under the slides. Now breaking them can be a field repair.
I'd suggest going this route - simple and replacing a broken buckle takes 2 minutes.

I figured warranty is out, as I've had the tent for over a year. I don't think it's been two just yet though.

Well I am glad to say that I am the first Authorized TEPUI Tent Dealer in El Paso TX. I can have any Tepui Tent in stock shipped to you via Freight. Just let me know. Right now I am building my own Informational webpage, because the E-Commerce Page is way to expensive at the moment, after buying in TEPUI it got me low on the business funds. But when the website is up this is what it is. www.suncityoutdoors.com I will also have a firearms TAB that will link my Facebook Business page that offers weekly and weekend specials. Forms of payment that I accept will be PayPal, VISA, MasterCard, Discover. Just as a heads up. Texas Residents will have to pay Tax only.

**** I will be posting up my new Builds on my Tacoma later today, because I totally went all out for mobile advertisement on my Truck, and I working side by side with a Local Fab Shop in El Paso for builds.

i think the summit series is a little overkill for most folks. the regular tents are plenty sturdy enough so unless you're going to be out in blizzards, hurricanes, monsoons, etc the regular tent would probably suffice. figure out what your budget is and what your likely camping conditions are. i'll be starting season #4 with my CVT and its still looks like new. I average 30+ nights a year out camping.

you'll be fine mounting it low, the ladders are adjustable to accommodate whatever vehicle/height you need and extentions are available if you actually mount it on the roof (mine is about maxed out on the roof of my Runner). the 2 piece sliding ladders will require that you drill new holes for the locking pins, the telescoping ladders are adjustable to any height.
The one down side to mounting the tents low is that hte annex becomes almost worthless, you really need to have the tent mounted up high enough to walk under it in order to make the most use of the annex. And if you get a shasta, etc with the overhang you'll be ducking under it everytime to enter/exit the tent. just extra food for thought!

CVT offers both types of ladders - I believe the telescoping ladders are standard on the tents and the 2 piece are special request items. @Cascadia Tents can you confirm?

I had mine like that for a bit. Worked fine. Just needed to drill new holes to lock the ladder in place.

Glad you found a solution you're happy with. Either way, feel free to contact me anytime if you're ever having issues, big or small, and I'll help get you taken care of. FWIW, in my 5+ years of working with Tepui I have heard of only 3 cases of the telescoping ladders having a failure. Sorry you are one of those. With any of the different ladders it's good to spray them occasionally with a dry lubricant, like graphite, or even silicone spray to keep the moving parts moving freely.

I use the same thing. A small cargo net is great because it's much easier to clean after muddy boots/shoes have been in it. Just spray it off and it dries quickly. Also I like it better than a shelf type shoe "basket/rack" that I've tried because if it gets windy at night the boots/shoes don't fall out if it blows around.
