Really depends on camping set up. If you have a wife/girlfriend, it makes for a nice changing area and toilet area. Although, my wife and I haven't really used the annex yet. She just changes in the tent. With a family, I would say it's worth it b/c the kids can sleep down below. I got it b/c I like knowing I have it if I need it and was planning ahead for kids.

I've used it once when four of us went camping. It was nice then. Pain in the butt to pack up.

 

What the above have said. I have it and use it less than I thought. But when at established camp grounds or posted up for several days I love it. If I am just going for a quick overnighter or not worried about privacy then I don't usually put it on. Having the additional overhang is awesome for rainy climates.

 

Went camping over spring break. Spent about 4 days out. The Rtt and the annex which I finally got to use did pretty well.

 

I had mine up on my shell in the Tacoma and didn't notice a huge difference. Actually got better traction off road. If you are going into some really off camber stuff, it might not be great to have super high, but anything else and you should be good. It's fine on top of my 4runner

 

What @SixthSnail said. Unless you go off camber or places with tons of low branches its perfectly fine up top. I had mine on my shell but didn't like it when off camber.

Going to mount it middle-high. So I can definitely walk underneath it, but probably pretty close to hitting my head.

Yeah I can see using it in established campgrounds. Not really a huge fan of those though. Most camping will be done over the weekend so not several days. And probably not in the rain. Sometimes in the snow though.

 

I've been in some good spots where I definitely felt it. Its manageable but not comfortable if you get too far off

 

What about a shell during the winter and a bed rack in the summer?

 

Put it on the shell and see how it feels. Head up west and try to find a couple spots to get off camber and see how it goes. If it bothers you, then a bed rack is probably best.

 

Shell is pretty convenient.

 

I found a little mesh net bag thing too it's great. I keep it tied to the tent and collapse it in every time.
A mesh net is almost mandatory to keep shoes and mud out but still keep them away from the critters below

Looking at your cargo net has me thinking though- why isn't that a standard feature? It would be stupid simple to add on and you could leave that on permanently without it getting in the way of anything when you closed it.

I'd bet you would sell quite a few of those nets if you wanted to. I'd buy one.

Wow. That's a great deal. Would have gone with tepui if that was around when I was looking to get my tent. Over 100 people for the cvt group is outrageous.

Already have a cvt was orgninally goijg to get the tepui but the version I was looking at getting only came in camo and am not a huge fan of the camo. Didn't have the extra money to get the ruggedized version either. I'm still happy with it even if ordering was a little crazy and odd
