Mine's off the passenger side of the trailer, bc most camp facilties are designed for access to the passenger side.

They aren't for everyone. I love em and I think most people that get out will love them too. Actually, I know it. They are also pretty big, cost a lot, take up bed space with a bed rack and lower MPG's.

I know if I didn't use it that often I would sell it. Kinda like buying a trailer and parking it for 360 days out of the year. I think a lot of people buy them because they look cool . It played a big role in my purchase but I knew I would actually use it too. Good news is that it would be pretty easy to sell one. I posted a bed rack up on craigslist holding my RTT and got 10 emails from people in colorado asking to buy it.

I could be wrong but who knows. That's a lot of tents getting bought in the CVT GB.

In a sense is it sort of like a fad, like that mod that everyone wants to do but not everyone will even use to it's potential.. I haven't been using meh tent recently because of lack of TW meets and the weather has been all but warm and pleasant but this summer, mannnn I'm gonna get some nights in with this bad boy haha

Mine is passenger side drop. Reason: very easy to pull off to the side of the road and flip it out to crash & catch some Z's.

As for a "fad" I'm not too sure about that. I've spent a total of about 10 nights in mine since I got it last year. I've already got 2 weekend trips planned for March & April where I'll be using it as well.
That's a lot of $$$ for a "fad" and there was no great sell-off after the last CVT group by.

I think it fits with the overland boom pretty well. I just see quite a few posts where someone says "I don't camp much but I think an RTT will make me get out more". Sorry, it might inspire someone for a weekend or so to get some pictures but that's it :p. If you didn't like camping because you had to sleep on the ground, I doubt an RTT is going to make you enjoy it that much more.

I guess I should say it probably won't happen in 6 months but in a year or two the tents will be sold in perfect condition with a night or 2 worth of use. I am willing to bet some wont have even been slept in. Just set up the day they got it and eventually garaged.

Just go on craigslist and look at the 5th wheels and RV's for sale :p. Some are in perfect condition. Bought, took out for a week or 2 and parked. Tons of camping gear is like that.

Then again, there was a shit ton of ppl who bought a RTT and aren't even active on the forum so who really knows what they are doing with them, if they are around SC they sure weren't selling em, my RTT came from a dude all the way in MD.

I picked passenger. No real reason but it does always open away from traffic-not that you're going to camp on a road.

i'm going driver side... i think. reasoning: if i use the annex and want to run the truck for some reason, i'd rather the exhaust venting out the opposite side of the truck.

Thanks for the replies, I think I've also decided on passenger side. On top of the reasons you guys said, if I'm ever parking in a tight space, it'll be easier to drive in and hug the driver side to allow more room on the passenger side, then just set up.

With the whole exhaust thing, idk i don't think it'd make that big of an impact, and i don't see it causing damage to the annex, or letting the fumes in the annex, the windows can be zipped shut so you wouldn't have to worry about that.

I would not have bought mine if I was not going to use it. I don't see it as a fad. I never take mine off I'm still using it trough winter. The weather does not have to be nice for me to use mine. My wife, daughter, and I slept through a 3 day rain storm last year on an exposed ridge. When the weather would break we would get out and let the dogs run around but there was a small lake that formed around my 4runner. Not having an RTT would have been terrible.

having the RTT has opened up so many doors for our adventures...given you can still throw down a tent nearly anywhere, but having this setup has driven us to tackle on much longer trips and more adventurous trips...hell i'm already planning trips for 2-5 years down the road that involve multi-day overlanding trips

    after finding spots like this...

Driver. Trailer lid opened on passenger so I could pull tools and whatnot out on the side of the road if needed without being in traffic. This setup allowed me to still open the trailer lid and have the tent hinge without disturbing anything when deployed.

:anonymous: Im going to the land of OZ... Canada this summer haha

I wasn't talking about us guys.. haha, Im saying there are people who buy stuff because they see it and they don't use it, to those people it's like a fad,the next thing they have to buy, i mean to each their own but for what mine costs, i take every chance i get to get out of my apartment and go out and see whats out there.

I agree in your situation you'd be fucked without the RTT.

Im planning trips out west in the future... :anonymous: maybe make it to moab and see Colorado,Wyoming, and Montana which i heard is beautiful
