Just picked this up for my tepui autana and testing this weekend. A perfect fit but I hope I didn't waste my $. Although, it does get very good reviews.

Nice. I'm trying to pickup a tempurpedic mattress pad and do some custom work to make it the perfect size for the tent

I think I'm going to buy a roof top tent for my 2016 Tacoma. I'm trying to decide how to mount it. If I buy a topper like a Leer, most aren't rated for that much weight. Plus, it makes my center of gravity higher. But it's lockable if I need to do so. I've looked at bed racks, which easily handles the weight and keeps my center of gravity lower. But, on dusty roads, everything back there gets covered in dirt and I can't lock it up. I've looked at trailers, but my preference isn't to tow a trailer, especially in rough, narrow terrain! Argh! I can make a case for either so any thoughts! We want to take some long trips so every few nights we will stay in a motel to shower and get out of the elements for awhile (wife going with me).

The caps are typically rated for a dynamic weight, i.e. moving. when you are parked they are plenty strong to hold a tent and a few adults.

My Leer has held my RTT just fine for over a year now of some pretty abusive trails. Center of gravity goes up and is noticeable but plenty manageable if you know to prepare for it. I have considered a bedrack but wouldnt change my setup for anything.

If you just want to mount the tent, then I'd head over to Relentless Fabrication and get yourself a set of bed bars. They'll keep they weight of the tent low and they won't add much more to the 150lbs you're add via the tent.

I was one of them too. Got the Kukenam Ruggadized for under $1300 (20% plus last years dividend applied) and shipped to Alaska for free. If you use a coupon/get something on sale, you won't get the 10% dividend the on that item though. However, I got a Ruggadized version for the cost of a regular Kukenam. Saved over $400 in shipping to AK.. REI might pick up on this and add it to the exclusions list for the big sales, so if it's an option, I would order it!

I have a DCSB and I was wondering if I need 3 of those bars or would 2 be sufficient?
Any advise would be much appreciated!

You'll have no problem with just the 2. They're built really sturdy so 3 would be overkill.

There's no question two will be strong enough to HOLD the weight, however I got 3 to SPREAD the weight more evenly across the bedsides. It might be overkill, but some people have experienced problems with their bedsides with all that added weight. I figured an extra bar is reasonably cheap (comparitavely, anyway) and it's one less thing to worry about. Just food for thought...

I've only heard of problems with 2nd gens too, so take that for what it's worth. If you're loading and unloading the bars each time you use them, vs keeping them loaded all the time that also makes a difference.

Do you guys leave your RTT on all the time? Or, do you take it off between trips?
I've never had one before but I definitely want to go that route for off-roading/over landing.

I leave mine on pretty much all the time. I've only pulled mine off when I actually need the bed.
