No problem. Enjoy the RTT! It's a totally different experience over the standard ground tent.

 

Wait till it gets "colder" if you go in the middle of the summer (like now) you're sweating like a pig and its hard to get to sleep unless you've been drinking a lot.

Or get a personal fan

 

I've got a little tent fan/light combo I bring along. You can angle it however and just hang it in the middle of the tent. It works wonders! Although on a couple hot nights I've got another little portable fan I set at a window or something. Can't wait to see how it all works in my RTT this weekend! First time use, finally!

Yeah I am trying to do some trips in October and November, but my big trip is happening in March. Heading out to CO for a couple weeks of spring skiing and some over landing.

 

On the "lockability" of the bed with a bed rack system. True with a full height, however I run bed bars and they are short enough that I cannot remove what I have in the bed without opening the tailgate. I am considering getting a pop n lock system to lock the tailgate (because Toyota kindly didn't supply us with a factory system...). If I don't end up going that route, I will likely fabricate something to gate it in and lock it.

Careful with the Pop & Lock I have heard more good than bad in regards to the handles and locking mechanism breaking just from running gravel roads. I bought one over a year ago and it's still sitting in my garage since post buy I started finding all these bad reviews. Not sure I want to get to where I am camping and find out I can open my tailgate.

 

Mine works just fine and I've been airborne among other things. My only gripe is with the Relentless Tailgate plate reinforcement, it requires a bit more of a slam to close the tailgate which turns in to having to press on the tailgate to get it open, I think the Pop & Lock internals just aren't strong enough and allow the tailgate arms to not open if there's any stress on the openers. Other than that I like being able to lock the tailgate and they are pretty much the only thing on the market lol. I regret that I didn't see the color matched one until after I'd already installed my black plastic one though.

edit- If you're still completely stock when it comes to your tailgate I would highly recommend a Pop & Lock. They work great!

 

Mine is on during "season" and off in the winter more or less. If I need the bed or traveling, often times I'll take it off also for the MPG sake. also sometimes when I have several weeks in between trips I will

 

If I wasn't camping this weekend I was planning on pulling mine off. I'm gonna pick up one of those garage pulley storage things that's good for like 200lbs and just use that to self remove the RTT and bed bars on demand instead of bugging the neighbor whenever I need to remove/put on

 

I just built a lift for my topper, was planning on using it with an RTT/topper once i pull the trigger on an RTT. It was pretty easy, and its attached to an electric winch, so i don't have to manually lift it.

 

Yep, the one I'm looking at has a giant extension and you just use a drill gun to go up and down. I don't need a fancy winch and all that But I will probably install some hangars in the ceiling for an added layer of support

 

Get the harbor freight winch. I'm sure it'd be able to reliably handle something only about 200 lbs total lol

 

exactly what I did. using ratchet straps as hangers so the winch doesn't have to hold the weight all the time.

I've been thinking about doing that... just low ceilings in the garage

 

Yeah I think I have enough room that as long as the thing is tucked up against the ceiling I can still walk under it and not give myself a concussion
