I do exactly this. Getting the kukenam ruggedized XL down isn't too bad. Now getting it back on the requires lots of beer and i can do it by myself attitude. .... Na, i have a buddy who helps me put it on the rack.

How much does it affect your MPG? I commute an hour to work everyday. I'm hesitant to do that. Is your truck your everyday vehicle?

Uh not much really, since it's not above the cab it doesn't affect it much. Yeah its my DD, but work and school are both within 7 miles

Probably depends on what height you mount your RTT but I have my on the tall relentless bed bars. the tent sits just about flush with the top of my Prinsu cab rack. I left my RTT on for the last 2-3 months and didn't notice much of a difference in MPG. I have to note that my commute is about an hour each way every day but its due to stop and go traffic so not like the RTT is really affecting my aerodynamics at that point.

When I have mine on top of my canopy I noticed maybe a 1-2mpg difference. But really hard to pin it directly to the rtt since its usually different roads and stuff.

I haven't heard of anyone really seeing huge differences with one on or off.

MT stuff, RTT stuff, the usual.
Height will affect it more than weight. Weight is less than another adult male riding with you.

My MPGs wih a 4 banger are roughly 17-18 everywhere I go... And mine is above the can about 10 inches.

I personally don't notice it when I leave mine on. But it sits just a tad above my roof line. I drive over an hour each way to work also

So if I haven't opened the one I bought 1.5 years ago and still have the receipt any chance POPnLock would want to swap it for the "upgraded" model you speak of? FYI I have an 06 Tacoma.

This is what I have been waiting on. I have been back and forth on a CVT or Tepui. Now it is a no brainer. I live in South East Texas where 90% of the year it's 80-110 deg's. This new mesh canopy will get used the most but will also purchase the heavy duty canopy also if it is separate as we like to head out to the trails at all times of the year.

Can't wait until it's available!! :spy:

I leave mine on. 3.4 v6, RTT sits flush with the top of the cab. I only lost .5 mpg.

I love the height of my new Allpro bed bars. Plus they are super light compared to the bed rack I had.

I've had this Front Runner tent for 4 months now and I'm really enjoying it. I got the cab and bed rack from Front Runner as well. The tent is under 100lbs so I'm able to put it on and take it off by myself if my girlfriend is busy doing something else. But its much easier to get on and off with some help. Sleeps 2 comfortably and we sometimes have my girlfriend's daughter up there with us. Its a bit tight but it works for us.
