Finally, after a year of pining, I'm part of the family. Can't wait to go camping.

 

I just realized that I never posted a pic in here now that the tent is mounted up and basically good to go!

I definitely have a few things to work on, but overall, it was outstanding! I did end up immediately ditching the cheesy factory cinch straps. The Velcro was a joke. I replaced them with some top quality NRS cam straps that did a great job of snugging the tent down. I also used some Velcro guitar cable straps to secure the cover straps. My buddy's strap on his RTT failed, and the end with the D-ring ended up flailing around and breaking the back window of his FJ. Screw that.

Anyway, here she is on her maiden voyage!

 

So since I sold my Tepui, I picked up my CVT this weekend. Honestly, I like it a lot more Than my old Tepui....

 

What specifically do you like more? I've never seen a CVT in person and am thinking about getting a smaller tent.

 

The rain fly has corner straps, the mounting rails feel beefier compared to the ones on my old Tepui, and the cover isn't as much as a pain in the ass to maneuver. Just my initial impressions so far...

 

I have the 2-piece and I'm going to need to secure it for sure. Yesterday when I was closing the tent up, the side of the tent that was tipped upward had the condensation mat slide right out and onto the ground. =/

I guess I'm okay with drilling some small holes into the floorboard. But I'll use nuts and bolts instead of the screws that came with it.

 

I've been very happy with my tent. I bought it and the all pro bars from puretacoma.com. As soon as I finish it, I'll put it on my trailer.

 

Youll be fine drilling a few holes through the aluminum floor. I'd go with some wide nylon washers and self locking nuts for sure. I've considered locking my one piece down the same way. Please let me know which way you decide to go.

It's always good to hear feedback. Tepui does use a different rainfly design that doesn't have the side portions because they can catch a lot more wind and act a bit like a sail. Mounting rails are actually interchangeable between the two so no real difference. CVT covers are a looser fit than the Tepui covers, mainly because of the need for the CVT cover to fit over the higher profile sliding ladders.

Agreed. My Tepui treated me well and the only need for the upgrade was due to me wanting a larger tent. They definitely have their differences and some will fit others better than the others.

That's good to know about the mounting rails, but my Tepui ones seemed a lot less durable compared to the CVT.

 

Do you let Stella sleep in the tent?

 

She slept in the truck this time. She always slept in my Tepui and she will in this one. That was the main reason for going up a size. I wanted to fit 2 people comfortably and her.

 

Riley sleeps in the truck but gets up and shuffles around so much. I'm looking at a trailer which would make it easier to get him in the tent.

 

My ideal setup is a campershell with my RTT on top, but I face height constrictions in my work parking garage unfortunately.

 

My boy Jax loves the tent and sleeps like a baby. He usually doesn't want to get out in the morning lol

 

I haven't left my dog in the tent with the door open yet. I'm pretty sure he isn't smart enough to understand the height from the ground and will just jump out.

 

Riley's 110#. Hard to lift. Plus, lower to the ground, less distance to the ground when drunk...

 

Stella is only 60lbs, so it's manageable.

 

Mine jumps out sometimes...usually when he's being stubborn and won't let me help him and I walk away lol. It's about 5'10" from the tent floor to ground for mine and he usually eats a little dirt on landing lol
