Been trying to do some research on RTT's on roof racks on the cabin. I keep seeing weight ratings for the factory mounting points being way too low for a RTT with occupants. How are people doing the RTT over the cab? Any issues? This would be for a 3rd gen.

Its totally fine. People do it all the time. Don't worry about "weight ratings" and such.

I think they set weight ratings so low to cover any sort of issues. So if it actually holds 1000lbs they set the rating at 300lbs, this isn't factual but I know in most industries it's better to play the low safe angle then spec it at actual...because if it fails.

Just curious... Did you replace the entire foam mattress with this or did you just get rid of a foam topper? I'd imagine that since this self inflates, you could deflate it and keep it in the tent whole making it easier to fold up the tent? I'm currently using a foam topper which has been comfy but makes folding up the tent a little trickier. Curious to hear how this has worked out for you.

I took the foam mattress out completely, and put the air mattress in its place. When I deflate the air mattress, I have enough room left to close the tent with the sleeping bag and pillows still inside without any issues getting it closed. Not to mention the air mattress is comfy and has way more support then the foam mattress!

I would if I could get the tent closed with everything inside, but it's too thick.

Yeah. I figured as much. Could you leave your bag in with the foam prior? Or just now that you have the air mattress

I can leave my queen size sleeping bag in with my foam mattress and close the tent pretty easy. Next time I have it out I plan to try leaving pillows as well and see how that goes.
