Its not mounted currently and under a bunch of crap lol. I'm about 6'2", and I can baaaaarely sit up directly in the middle of the tent. I usually have to hunch over if I want to sit up as my head will be brushing the roof at the ends. If you're wanting to have a tea party hangout in your Tepui, I advise against the Ayer. In other news, WTS AYER, only used like 3 times.

I went with the RCI metal works bed rack. It sits About 12" above the bed rails. I'm 6'1" and I have to duck a little under the tent when it's opened up.

how much time you plan on spending in the tent? I could see the Ayer being good if you're only planning on sleeping in it.

We have the kukenam, which is one size bigger, and I personally wouldn't want to spend a rainy day playing cards in anything smaller.

We've spent a lot of cold, rainy, and unpleasant days stuck in a backpacking tent when regattas have been rained out, so comfort was the biggest reason I went bigger. The extra height on the kukenam also allows for space to hang an LED light and probably a small fan.

Thanks! Yeah, it's great for everything except for heavy rain and snow.

Congrats! You'll love that setup. If it didn't come with the SLO Sail rainfly, I'd definitely look into that. And it would be a good idea to seam seal the tent and rainfly. I would also get a waterproof mattress cover. If you end up packing away the tent in a downpour, some water will get in and the foam mattress is a sponge.

After researching the fabric material for the new camper, and talking to a few upholstery shops/ sailmakers, I realized that I could have had a new waterproof tent made. Easy since they can use the existing tent as a template. If you ever go down that path, here's the material to use:

    IMG_6272.jpg

Same stuff they use for the 4wc sides.

Lastly, if you ever want to go with roof storage over the cab, I was working with Zach at Prinsu to come up with a storage box solution with sliders. Slide the boxes out to the sides and deploy the tent. Never got around to it and just removed the boxes when camping.

LMK if you want the sketches I made (if I can find them).

Nice addition to your already awesome truck!

Unless they changed the material, the SLO sail rainfly is waterproof, but the outside material soaks up water and needs to be treated. Kinda like a rain shell. Water can't get through the inner liner, but absorbs on the outside. The vinyl coated polyester, from my last post, is totally waterproof but may be heavy for a rainfly at 18.5 oz/ yard. Cool that you're looking into a tent replacement!

My 2009 doesn't have the shark fin. I'd check the Prinsu thread since I think the issue came up there. With the bedcaps on, the Flippac cleared the Prinsu rack by 2" IIRC.

Edit: Sorry to jack the RTT thread with the mini Tacoma RV stuff...

I stand mine up on a flat furniture dolly and roll them against the wall in my garage.
